There are two yellow wires that come off the ignition switch. They go to the starter enable relay under the left kick panel. The starter enable relay is controled by the VATS control module. There is a dark green wire that goes from the starter enable relay to pin "A3" of the Vats module. Disconnect the starter enable relay and but a fused jumper between pin "E" and pin "A" of the connector. Pin "A" is a dark green/white wire that goes to the Park/Neutral switch. This will bypass that portion of the VATS.

Here is an update to my last post. I found this schematic for the ignition system on an 1985 camaro that should work for you.
Remove the starter enable relay connector, cut the yellow wire that goes to pin "E" where it splices into the yellow wire from pin "C". Next splice the yellow wire from pin "C" to the dark green/white wire at pin "A" which goes to the park/neutral switch.

You need to reattach all the sending units for the gauges to work. Do any of them work?? Speedo? What transmission are you using?

Sammy, I am chasing the EXACT same proble you are. My gauges will NOT work unless the door is open. When the door is closed the gauges kind of work, but only if the dimmer switch is set to the full down position. Its very odd.
Recently, I started to blow the gauge fuse pretty bad. In fact, if I put a 30amp fuse in there it will last for like 3 seconds then die.
And with my fun luck my multimeter doesn't measure anything other than milliamps. So I can't really attach the meter and find out anything.

Exactly. I already knew it was a short in the system. And I had a feeling where it would be. Trixter gave me some excellent help that just confirmed my suspicions.
Fixed the gauge fuse issue. Everythings back to the ol' problem again. I suspected a loose ground is causing the problem, I have yet to be able to track it down yet though.
