Tach Has Mind Of Its Own
Does anyone have any input on how to fix a tach from a 82 trans am? When it first starts up, it goes to 4500 at idle, then all of a sudden bounces back to "idle". Upon throttling up, the needle moves, but not in a accurate or precise manor. My car is 305H, no tach filter, the tach has a pretty brown spot on the printed circut board. I have read in here about people replacing some parts on that board, but the tachs that they were repairing were different than mine. I even tried another second hand tach from another 82 TA, it wanders too but in a different way. It will idle at 2500 and slowly move up as i throttle up. Is there anything else on the car to test, or do i just have two tachs that are out of calibration??

You're talking about the tach.. tho do you mean the
engine is acting up ?
Does the idle follow what the tach indicates ?
