Green wire from dimmer switch?

I am in the process of redoing my entire interior, I was hoping to have a site with pictures before I made my first post but I’ve run into a problem that I can’t figure out and I’ve been searching the boards for hours.
I had to replace the **** that controls the interior and headlights with a couple of switches. Everything is working fine except I don’t think I am providing power to the right wire to light up the gauge cluster, when I hooked up the small green wire that comes out of the dimmer switch to a live wire the gauge cluster lit up just like I wanted it to. However this wire is a very thin gauge compared to some of the others being used and I feel like it would burn out if I left it on too long. Is this the only wire that brings power to the backlighting of the gauge cluster or am I missing one? I feel like it has something to do with the old dimmer and a larger wire is supposed to carry more of the load, I don’t care about dimming the lights I just want on and off but I also don’t want the wire to catch fire once I start driving. I know what all the wires coming out of the dimmer switch do accept for this green one, and a large purple wire. I saw some diagrams but vital parts are too blurry for me to make out.

1) is the green wire all I need to hook up to illuminate the gauges?

2) if anyone has a simple list of the color of the wire and the destination that would be even better. Example:
brown – tail lights
yellow – head lights
white – ground for dome light
(im just making this up I can’t remember off the top of my head but you get the idea)

Any help would be immensely appreciated. Thanks

Hello padmos,

Welcome to the board and thank you thegeneral. Here is a schematic of the interior dimming which shows the wires for the gauge lights from the light switch. As you can see from the schematic, there is a dark green wire that goes from the light switch to the "INST LPS" fuse on the fuse panel and from there it is a gray wire to all the gauge lights with a black wire for ground.

Thanks trickster. That was exactly what I needed and so fast too, now I won’t have to worry any more than usual when I’m driving at night.
