Alternator/ Battery Issues ?
I am having a weird issue on my '92 Firebird. When I was driving down the road, it just completely died. It appeared to be a bad battery so I replaced it and it worked fine. However, my car had been keeping around 13-13.5 volts on the old battery and as soon as I installed the new one I noticed that it stayed barely above 8. I thought maybe the alternator is not working correctly, so I replaced it with a new one. Fired it up and it went to about 9 volts, then I turned on my cd player to see if that would drain it and it sure did. The voltage went down and I turned the bird off. I decided to see if maybe jumping the car would help, so I did and it went up to about 11-11.5 volts. I let it run for awhile and it held pretty much in that area so I shut it off and went inside because it started raining. I came back outside about an hour later and fired it up and it barely got above 8 volts. I have no idea what is going on and am hoping since I am a newbie at these cars that it is something simple that I am not thinking of. I thought maybe it could be the voltage regulator? Maybe a wire shorted somewhere or is touched something metal and losing power? I appreciate any help on this.

Check the fusible link that goes from the starter solenoid to the wire harness on the alternator. (red wire). Also check all your battery connections.
