All the electronics for the wipers and washer pump are in the wiper motor cover.

Apeiron, I took the motor apart and I don't see anything that resembles a relay (at least not the one Autozone sold me). I did happen to notice a light blue plastic "arm" was in 3 pieces and 2 springs fell out! What is that for?

To bring you up to date: My wipers have been turning on just fine, but I have to turn off the ignition to turn them off. If I try to make it wipe 1 time and stop, it keeps going. This made me think that the relay was sticking but now I'm confused with the broken arm.

The broken blue arm is the park switch. It cuts off power to the wipers after they return to the park position. You need a new cover, GM P/N 22039684. I don't know what they sold you, but these cars don't have a "wiper relay".

Thanks, I'll go back tomorrow and get the new part and try to find out what they sold me.

It's probably a dealer only part, by the way.

Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
It may be way cheaper to pick up a new (used) motor. One from an 84-87 thirdgen is a direct fit; also many of the mid-80's Monte Carlo's and Cutlasses, etc. used the same motor. Just be sure the replacement has the delay feature.

A used cover or cover and motor would be the way to go. Don't bother getting a new or rebuilt motor, they come without the cover.
