Totally confused now

well here is the lowdown, i was workin on my 89 ROC 305 TPI...well not specificly anything with the engine, but anyway was workin on fixin my gauges. had to solder the two connections for the right hand turn signal indicator..voila fixed that problem..second the kid that had the car before me didn't have the tach hooked up, so i hooked the white wire up....voila now i have tach..

However i took it for a drive and made it four blocks before it died, and would not start. I've changed the coil, cap, rotor, and ignition control module, still nothing. I have the magnetic pickup, but don't really want to pull the distributor. I did the jumper trick and came up with zero codes...so now i'm boggled and pissed...not sure if any of you could give me some input as to what you think is wrong. Thanks

I would have told you to check the module but seeing how you did that already i'm stumped. I had that problem and it was the module.

Have you checked the two wires that go from the ignition coil to the ignition module?

You may want to check the chip to see if it's seated right. The same thing happened to mine awhile back and it ended up being the chip wasn't pushed in all the way.

Trickster, I have not checked those wires, this is the first time that i've dealt with this type of ignition system, so i'm a newbie.. I know which wires your speaking of, there are two connectors that plug into the module, which side and which wires. I just recently acquired the car a few months ago, and have not had the time to pick up a chiltons or anytype of service manual.

Come to think of it, when the car died on my, i popped the hood and could smell electrical burn smell, but saw no smoke..lol..and it was being emitted from behind the plenum by the cap...suppose i fried a wire??...thanks again for all your help

If you will check inside the car, you might find that the previous owner did some modifying to the wiring system and that is probably why the tach wire was disconnected. Just a thought!!!!!!!!!!

I guess i'm not gettin ya Trickster...the tach wire was disconnected on the pigtail connector in the engine bay that is directly off of the coil...it has an aftermarket security system on it, it doesn't work, but i don't think that it would be dealing with anything having to do with the tach?...I may be way off, but never know i guess
