won't start when hot

My wife has an 88 2.8 camaro with an auto and after a long trip or driving a while when the car is shut off it won't start back up, no turning no clicking no nothing-thought it might be the neutral safety switch but it still won't start in neutral. after about 30min it will start like nothing was wrong this is a delima due to the fact that the car makes long trips weekly 300mi rnd trip.

I was having this exact problem when I first purchased my car. If I turned it off while it was hot and then tried to restart it about 50% of the time it wouldn't even make a sound. I took the battery out and let it charge for a full day and cleaned the posts. Replaced the positive and negative battery cables. Pulled the starter and cleaned all of its terminals. It's been about 4 months and it hasn't happend since. I don't know what fixed it but you might try those things.

It has a new starter (GM not reman) and a new batterie as well as new ignition and everything else for that matter, just not a new neutral switch. I will clean and or replace the cables and give it a try.

I have always been a ford and mopar guy but my wife just loves camaros and loves her car, it is in great shape. I am now a chevy guy and it is a great car I just don't know a whole lot about it and I know a whole lot less about newer electrical (computer)cars.

I feel ya on that! This is my first computer controlled vehicle to modify and it is kinda tricky. I love 1st gen camaro's and could work on them with me eyes closed. I'm thinking about ripping all my computer stuff out and carb'ing the engine like -ZERO- did.
