Installing T-5. Do I need new PROM?
I am installing a WC T-5 this week. Do I need to replace the PROM module to let the ECM know it doesn't have the automatic sh*t anymore?
Thanks!

Yes
BC Code AXXC or AXXD depending on rear gear ratio.

If I don't change anything in the PROM, what would be the downside? Stalling? High idle? Erratic idle? Bad performance? I've heard a bunch of stories but don't know what to believe.
Thanks

I Put a t-5 in a 91 firebird that had a auto and the only thing that was wrong was when you came to a stop the RPM's would stay up for a sec then it would come down. That was all. There was 2 wires that were by the shifter that you have to connect to keep the check engine lightoff but I don't remember what wires they were....???

I did a Auto to T5 swap 2 weeks ago and ran it with the Auto prom and had no problems. I did notice a loss of MPG but I believe it is due to the overdrive gear and the 3.73 rear. I cruise at 2500-3000 on the highway in 5th gear.
I did put a T5 chip in the car and it felt like it ran the same. Had no SES light come on running either chip. Also, I have the Park/Neutral wires connected together so it will start, I'll be installing the Clutch switch as soon as I get it from my friend.

Thanks for the replies, I'll see how she runs once I get the T-5 in. But that's another issue.

Yes, there are a few things to modify. The torque converter stuff needs to be disabled, the clutch follower, idle speeds are different. There's also a flag that needs to be changed. The changes are relatively small.
