91 RS OBD-II compliant?

I was curious if a '91 camaro RS is obd-ii compliant? I was thinking about getting some software for troubleshooting with a pda or laptop but they all require obd-ii

Nope - it's all OBD-1 up thru 92, OBD-II in 93 up until OBD-III kicked in after that (don't remeber the exact year they went from II to III).

Go ahead and get your laptop, the go to moates.net for the free datalogging software or buy Datamaster.

I thought that '94-'95 it was still OBD-I on F-bodies but used the OBD-II connector.

is this the software you were referring to?
http://www.ttspowersystems.com/

also i'm guessing i need the ALDU1 USB-to-ALDL Converter and the
CABL1 OBD1-Style ALDL Connector from moates to interface

i'm not certain where the free software you were referring to was, i did run across this though http://www.supportfitness.com/mark/tunerpro/

i really just want to do diagnostics no reprogramming, whats the best software to use?

thanks
Nathan

Like I said, I'm not sure on the 3rd and 4th Gens setups....

As for the software -

TunerPro is the free stuff, although I recommend if you try it and like it that you do the $30 license fee to help support the efforts to build and maintain it. I did.

Datamaster is free as well if you're just monitoring. Otherwise, you get 20 free "log file saves" before you have to pay their license fee. I've got both, there's nice features to both of them in my opinion.

Hope this helps, Good Luck, and welcome to the world of DIY!!!

OBD-I up until 95, 96 and newer was OBD-II, newer cars are CAN (aka OBD-III).

No, cars were OBDI until the middle of 95 when cars started converting to OBDII. There were some late 95 cars that had OBDII style connectors but the system was still OBDI. Cars from 96 to present are ODBII. I dont bieleve there is an "OBDIII" yet officially, but some 2004 GM cars require the use of a candi module (controller area network diagnostic interface) for the car to interface with a scantool, but afaik it's still considered OBDII.
