Check the wiring at the light and the brake pedal. I assume the other one owrks fine, which means it's probably a wiring problem at the light. But Trickster, g0d of electricity, will know for sure.

Does the passenger side bulb get brighter when you touch the brakes? There are several bulbs that will fit in that socket, however you need to have a dual element bulb in there for it to work properly.

Yes.there passenger side will brighten when I hit the brakes.

I put in the bulb they gave me at the auto store...I believe it was a 2056.

According to the service manual it should be a #2057. From looking at the Schematic, it likely that you just have the wrong bulb in there.

Well should I assume that you now want a schematic of it too don't you?

Trickster I have a similiar problem, the opposites of ponykillers lol. When I turn my lights on one part of the drivers side brake light does not turn on, but when I press the pedal it will light up. Im positive I have the right bulb in there. I never had a problem with it before.

Check the connector and socket and replace the bulb with a known good bulb of the right type. If I remember correctly it is a #2057 bulb. The problem that you are having does happen occassionally where one side of the dual element will burn out and leave the other one intact.
