Check the wiring at the light and the brake pedal. I assume the other one owrks fine, which means it's probably a wiring problem at the light. But Trickster, g0d of electricity, will know for sure.

Does the passenger side bulb get brighter when you touch the brakes? There are several bulbs that will fit in that socket, however you need to have a dual element bulb in there for it to work properly.

According to the service manual it should be a #2057.
From looking at the Schematic, it likely that you just have the wrong bulb in there.

Trickster I have a similiar problem, the opposites of ponykillers lol. When I turn my lights on one part of the drivers side brake light does not turn on, but when I press the pedal it will light up. Im positive I have the right bulb in there. I never had a problem with it before.

Check the connector and socket and replace the bulb with a known good bulb of the right type. If I remember correctly it is a #2057 bulb. The problem that you are having does happen occassionally where one side of the dual element will burn out and leave the other one intact.

This is quite funny....not only do i have the same problem but both of my tail lights don't want to get very bright with the brake on and the lights on....what is wierd is that the brake does come on but just barely so when the light is in the cover you can't even notice it. it almost seems like there is a bad ground or somthing...not enough power to the rear lights? im not sure im gona be looking into it this week ill post what i find out
