Bright shiny new head lights.

Got my new H4 headlights this passed friday and got them in. I can't belive how dim and yellow the stock lights are in comparison! But they put a little drain on the battery.. High beams on and car at idle, sucking down 27.6 amps! lol Will have some pics of my boot-leg install and the lights later.

Nice, too bad the cops would be all over me if I had those. My brother just got a $300 "Impersonating a Police Officer" ticket for hyper WHITE bulbs.

i don't think they could do that with these, the light they put out is just like the new mercedes and bmw. not any funny colors, just a nice bright white light

How can properly adjusted, upgraded lighting result in receiving a ticket?

It has the slightest bluest tint (less than most other bulbs). The cop was obviously just looking for trouble since it's clearly a white bulb. I'm curious what the court is going to say about it.

In a search I did afterwards concerning halogen lighting, it became apparent that blue-tinted lights are not DOT approved. Looks like an easy ticket, at least for an equipment violation. Don't think there's much chance of prosecuting for "impersonating an officer" unless your friend had a bubble-gum light on top of the car and a tin badge in his pocket...

Those AUTOPA H4 conversions you have are not DOT approved and technically not street legal. The expensive Hella conversions are DOT legal, IIRC.
I have those conversions on my highbeams, they work well, esp. with the powerful H4 bulbs and direct 10 guage wiring to the battery.
If all your lenses and bulbs are DOT stamped equipment, then you are fine as far as tickets go.

RAGE13: Where did you find those solenoids? Brand? I used 4 bosch relays (one for each light). Those look impressive.
Also mine came with 1/4" holes in the reflector part for 8 watt "city lights" I don't see holes in yours

Yes, I was wondering the same; they look like a Ford starter relay. Are they rated for continous usage? If not, the springs inside the relay can overheat and fail, rendering the solenoid inoperative.

there are no holes for city lights, but i wouldn't have used them anyway.
the solenoids are made by Cole-Hersee (p/n: 24059), they are Continuous Duty 12v 85amp solenoids. just got back from a 4 hour drive last night, brights on most of the way with no problems. for the money this was one of the best upgrades to my car so far.

this is where i picked up the lights Link for those looking to do the same

Here in MA any blue light is considered impersonating a police office. A friend's been pulled over for having blue LEDs on his windshield washer fluid shooters, another $300 ticket.

I have a question, why did you use 100A solenoids? Wouldn't a 40A relay work just as well?

How much scratch?

Can I aks what this all cost? I upgraded the halogens on the front the car (inside the bumper) but have hesitated doing anything with the headlamps.

What about the Sylvania Silverstars? Too so-so?

H4 bulbs fit them, i'm not sure about what else would fit. send an e-mail to the site in the link and they can tell you anything you want to know about them.

Dangit... I always seem to miss the obvious things. Happening a lot lately. Maybe I'm getting old.

Not really better than a set of GE "super blues" that cost half as much. Even these do make a noticable difference...
