swapped engine now car dies when i pull neg bat cable

Axle/Gears: 373s 411s
swapped engine now car dies when i pull neg bat cable

the engine dies when i pull the neg bat cable. the alt was tested and it passed. what am i missing here. i have a 2 wire plug and that plug goes to the plug and then a red wire which i put on the alt where the screw goes to on the back side of it. what am i missing.
trickster please help anybody please help

what do you mean by pull the cable? pull it off? or just nudge it?

On most cars that is a normal occurance since what you are doing is removing the ground.

but it shouldnt my shop teacher says if i do that then im running off of the bat and not the alt. and if i gas it the current reading doesnt move it stays at 12

If I understand that correctly, how could it be running off the batt if you just pulled the cable off? What are you trying to do, anyhow?

that still doesnt solve the problem i have with it not fluctuating when i gas it.

pulled the positive off and guess what it died

how bout if you leave it running with the cables on does it eventually die or stay running? you have the other connector that goes into the side of the alt connected still and the cable that goes to the post on the back of the alt?

when i accelerate the or give the mtr gas. the voltage reading stays the same. and yes the engine stays running if i dont disconnect the cables.

how many volts is it reading and how long will it stay running?
