trans am digital dash problem

One of the numbers in from the milage screen in my digital dash is not working properly, sometimes it flickers other times is completely gone. & the open door alarm sound has never worked.
Two days ago I got on the car and when I inserted the key I heard the "ping, ping" noice wich was wierd cause I had never heard it before. I start the car & after a while I noticed that the milage screen was working perfect.
What could thins be? a loose cable, dirty conection, or are this two things not related? any ideas?

My guess would be a loose wire or bad connection, I have yet to take my dash apart so I am of no help there.

I would like to know the same thing, cuz I have the same kinda problem in my car.....mine is with the "pontiac" digital part.....the "P" and the "C" don't light up all the way, so, like, the "C" will look like "l"

I hope someone eventually comes up with a possible solution to our problems! I have two sets of digital dashes...so I now have extra parts to work with!
But, WhiteKnight, if I recall, I think I had a similar problem with my dash one of the times I put the dash back in.....it could be a couple of things;
1. That whole dash cluster is a PAIN to put in-while making sure the main connector on the back is actually plugged in....same goes for the "information center" section/cluster. There is a main connector on that, that is unbelievably hard to make sure it is plugged in...this alone took me 1/2-1 hour....cuz there is a little wire that plugs in to the main harness somewhere, and then there is a plug on the back o f the unit that plugs into the backing of where it goes in.
I don't know if that made any sense..but....as you said, you won't be pulling out your dash anytime soon..

not to mention the ummm dunno glass plate thingys with the pins, its so easy to bend those bloody pins. I'll prolly retackle the dash sooner or later.

Yes, those pins are the absolute WORST part about the digital dash.
Another question for all of you....Does anyone know, if I simply changed the "orange" center information center plate to a "Blue" one, would it show blue?
IE- Has anyone heard about someone modifying the digital dash in a 3rd gen.?
