Some wire burned... made my car shut off while driving..

There are a whole bunch of cables underneath the steering column.. along with the fusebox and one of those cables started smoking and it seeped through the steering column openings.. and then I checked it out and it was all burnt.. ashes... however, the windows..lights radio everything else is working properly

 

What color was the wire?

 

orange I think or red... we fixed it.. my friend came over and combined 5 wires into one and now the car is running.. this is wierd because I installed the third brake light, light bulb and minutes after the wire burned and the third brake light wouldnt work anymore...
