Gas Guages

What is up with the gas gauges on camaros everywhere everyone that owns a camaro tells me how much the gauge goes nuts on them how it will be at F then at half then when you step on the gas it goes up higher and when you slow down it goes lower... is this normal for camaros? when is the guage telling the truth of how much is in the tank?,is it when you come to a complete stop?

The reason that the gas guage bounces around when coming to a stop or taking off is because the tank does not have baffles in it to prevent the fuel from sloshing around.

Yep. I HEARD 4th gen tanks can fit with little modifications and they have the baffles.

TBPH, most cars' fuel gauges, not just F-bodies, alter their reading depending on what the car is doing. You're right in saying that the only true reading is with the car at rest on level ground.

Mark.

I also noticed that they get hung up and read wrong alot on 3rd gens...

For example, I'll fill my car up and it will read full, but then it won't move until I'm down to half a tank.

Or I'll fill it up and the damn thing will only go to 3/4's of a tank

I hate that, I like to know exactly how much gas I have dagnabbit

Yea ive noticed that when i fill up my tank, the first half of the gas guage takes a long time to go down, but when it gets to a half a tank left, the second half goes down very fast, so its like the first half of my guage is really 3/4 of a tank and when it says i have a half tank left, its really like 1/4
