door locks

my locks dont work. i bought a new door lock relay thinking that was the problem but its not. i can hear the relay clicking when i push the lock button but the actuators dont pull in or out. i am getting voltage to the actuator (i tested with a test light but not a meter) and i hooked the actuator straight to the battery and they work so its not the actuators. what is the voltage supose to be at the actuators. is it a full 12v. anyone have this problem before.

Should get the full 12 volts. I had trouble with mine, the lock mech. and rods were really stiff and hard to move, lubed it all up real good and worked fine after that. That lock relay is reversing relay, sort of tricky but if yours is a factory setup, that shouldn't be the problem if you have voltage at the lock motors.

Smoke, Have you checked to see if the rods are bent, binding, or improperly installed?

Double check the spring coil on the doors them selves they hold the locking rods in place, they have tendency to rust up and not give either!....its best to hit with wd-40!

Just out of curiosity, what spring coils are you referring to here. I have removed several of these actuators and rod linkages and do not remember these spring coils. They are not shown in my manuals either.

Its ribbited to the doors interior panel,I found out the hard that this item was needed for when I was installing power locks and it holds the power actuator rod in place and if they rust, they can get REALLY stiff and not move!

to clear things up a bit. i have an extra set of actuators also. i tested them with the battery and they move in and out fine, i hooked the actuators to the wiring in the car and nothing works, just hear therelay clicking. i checked voltage with a test light and i am getting power there when the switch is pressed. i tried with the actuators in the open and closed position and they dont work eiter way. so there cant be any binding problems with the rods cause they are not connected. any idea??

It sounds like a bad power lead?....I had a simular problem and tapped off the power line from the trunk release power!....have you tried replacing the relay yet?

have you tested the power cable that runs to the trunk lock?
