they said I have power
they said I have power
the shop my car just came from said there's power going to the wires for my radio and cigarette lighter. But neither one work. I wasn't there, but I guess there was a mishap while jumping my car and sparks flew.
I looked at all my under dash fuses and they all seem ok.
where do go from here?

Get yourself a multimeter and check it yourself, the orange plugged into the ciggy lighter is 12v constant, just hit it and the ground going to the lighter and see what you have, if you have no power, I would go back to the shop and get your money back.

I would still check to make sure you have power on at least the cig lighter, if you don't you may want to check grounds and make sure one of them are not cut.

There is a 20 AMP fuse under the hood located near the battery but it has nothing to do with the radio. Have you checked the metal circuit breakers in the fuse panel?
i haven't checked the metal breakers in the fuse panel. the cig lighter works, but the radar detector that was plugged in got fryed. also, the fuse in the back of the radio was blown.
there was a stripped, almost broken wire coming from next to the battery with a white plastic cylinder on it. I put a new end on the wire and put it back on the little screw with the others. Now the "tail" fuse blows instantly. I lose my instrument lights, shifter light, and tail-lights.
I don't know electrical that well.

fixed...i hope
So I'll try and make this quick.
One of the dimmer wires on my radio harness was pinched against whatever that piece of metal that is behind my radio.
I then ended up putting in the shixxyest fuse ever built. The fuse melted instead of tripping and fryed my radio wire harness and fused some of the wires together. That's why I kept blowing the "tail" fuse. I cut the harness out and spliced the radio right into the factory wires, and replaced the tail fuse. All seemed to go well.
BTW, the fuse panel lid is the worst design ever. I had to take mine off, cause it kept falling on my feet... Not cool.
Thanks for everybody's advice! Also, Trickster, I see your advice all over on all different boards. Are you sure you're not some auto-mechanic super -computer?
