Horn, Dome Light, and Cig Lighter Not working!!!
Hey you guys, i have an '89 GTA and the Horn, Dome Light, and the cigarette lighter isn't working. I took it to have my clutch instgalled and of course i think they had to remove the center console. Now i found out yesterday that some of my electrical stuff wasn't working. anyone know where the damn wires lead to? or how i can figure out how to fix it?

you're definately experiencing a fuse problem, as all of those are on the same fuse. Think, the interior or INT fuse...start pulling them, as i'll almost guarentee that's your problem...i know this because when i was younger ( a kid) i accidently dropped a penny into my dads cigerette lighter on the firebird i now own. Blew a fuse, which he knew happened because he had done the same thing before also, and i think ive done it since i've owned the car myself.

You're looking for the courtesy fuse. CTY or CTSY or something similar. If it blows, check your cigarette lighter, as that seems to be the most common problem with this fuse. They rust and short, or coins fall into the bottom of the socket.
Your fuse block should look similar to this: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/att...postid=2010537

My problem a long time ago was a loose cig lighter, I guess it screws in behind the dash where the connnection is. Anyway I kept turning it on the dash side untill it was tight. No more blown fuse.

What now?
Ok, I have the same problem on my 1991 Firebird. No horn, No Cigarette lighter, no dome light. I looked at my fuse block, and all the fuses are there and working. So what else might be the problem. I have a broken headlight switch, so I can't check the gauge lights or the fog lights, but the rear defrost works, and the radio works.........just no Horn, Cig lighter, or dome light.....
Any comments? Suggestions?
Have you ever stopped to wonder why we end up putting so much time and effort into these cars? I'm redoing the interior on mine and it needs a new spindle..........I have a perfectly fine 2001 Mitsubishi Galant sitting in my driveway, never been wrecked, has 100,000 miles less on it, and it doesn't smell like old feet.........
but no, for some reason I decide that I'd rather dump a couple thousand into a partially wrecked Firebird that needs it's fair share of help.............
My mom thinks I'm nuts

dude your mom is dumb. A firebird is much better than a galant. More potential. And if you restore it right- you will have the best car in town. Anyway-
If its not the fuse, then its a bad connection or bad wire somewhere. Maybe take the fuse out and scratch the contacts on it with a utility knife. Also, maybe try swapping the fuse out with a new one - it wouldn't hurt. Probably take off the fuse block and look behind it. Check out the connections there. Tighten the ground wire that goes to metal of the car. I dont know. Just a few suggestions...

Re: Horn, Dome Light, and Cig Lighter Not working!!!
Today my lighter started smoking like a fire. Horn and dome light quit as well. Fuse was almost melted in place. Anyway to rewire the dome and horn without the lighter. Gotta pass inspection.

Re: Horn, Dome Light, and Cig Lighter Not working!!!
It's the lighter socket that shorts out continually blowing the fuse. Mine was like that but I read about the solution on here. You have to unplug the socket from the back. To get to that you have to take off the gauge bezel after you take off the panel under the steering wheel. You will also need to release the light **** and shaft from the switch by pressing up on the little button on the bottom of the light switch unit from underneath and then pulling the shaft out. Try replacing the fuse after it is unplugged and see if the dome light now works. You can either replace with a good lighter socket or leave unplugged. If you leave it be careful, the orange wire is always hot and needs to be protected from shorting out. I have good lighter sockets and inserts if you can't find one that works.
Have fun!
