If you are running a HEI vacuum advance distributor you will not need the ecm .I belive you can seperate the vss from the harness not sure I have man hook up . If your motor is installed , Befor you start takeing stuff out get every thing goinng first . On my ride 85 Iroc carb I have a little canester in the back by the distributor , looks like a coil with a wier coming out the top . Thats my oil presser uint . As for the temp gage it is a dark green wier with a small flat conector that gose to the drive side head . If you ground it , it will peg the gage out . I hope some of this will help .

thanks alot! what color is the oil pressure wire? about the vss i have a t56 in their and i was just wondering what to do? i have the dakota box. i read that i should un-cover all the vss wires all the way to the box and twist them so i dont get any static. does all that sound ok?

I can not call of the top of my head what color the oil press wier is , but it has a little boot on the end like a minni spark plug wier . I do not know about the vss , I would go with it if it comes from a reliable sorce . Good luck
