swapping to Vbelt ????

I'm swapping out my serpentine belt system to vbelt. I'm using the system outta my 79 GMC pickup. I'm curious if my alternator from my serp will work with my vbelt brackets? Obviously I need to change the pulley. But will the bolt holes line up?

First, Why would you even want to switch to a V-Belt? You lose alot of efficiency that way. Plus if you are looking for more HP out of your setup, the serp belt is the way to go.

2nd If your car is pre 1987 than you may have a chance that everything will line right up with no probs but you may have some spacing problems after 1987 because certain things were changed that year on the SBC as a whole.

Well there are a couple reasons I'm switching. I wanna clean up the clutter in my engine bay and drop some pounds. I'm losing the a/c and I don't want to spend a fortune on the delete pulley. I have the vbelt setup minus alt. and the engine is a pre-87.

Well then it should go together well for you. Just watch the alignment of the pulley's if it is off just a hair you will go through belts left and right. Once you get it going i would always carry a spare just in case one of the pulleys takes a bite out of the belt.

Good luck,
J.P.

March makes some excellent bracket and pulley set-ups that are fully adjustable. That's what i am using and i have never worn out a belt yet.

Thanks J.P. Eventually I'd like to make the March Leap. But that will be a ways down the road. Other priorities at the moment. Car needs a diet for now.

Trust me, you won't spend a fortune to get a good used delete pulley from the wrecker. They usually even have them all on a shelf somewhere. Mine was 20.00 CAD.

I'll call around and see if I can find one. What kind of power losses am I looking at swapping to vbelts? Seems like vbelts are as welcome as prostate cancer on this board.
