alternator pulls engine down

Car: '82 Sport Coupe/'89 bird/'77 280z
Engine: 355/2.8/L28E(t)
Transmission: TH350/T5/4 spd
Axle/Gears: 3.73/3.42/3.54
alternator pulls engine down

My alternator stopped working so i went and bought a new one and when i plug in the two wire clip it pulls the engine down. Anyone have any idea why? Could my new one be bad?

How did your original fail? What was its symptoms? I take it this is a three wire alternator?

sorry, my dad is the one who told me this but i went and looked at it for myself and he was apparentally imagining things because it wasn't doing anything of the sort, or it stoped doing it when i got there. thanks for replying anyhow.
