I know this has probably been answered in another thread but sorting throught all that info. is a pain (i've been at it for an hour and a half). My car wouldn't turn over at times, but I would try it again a few minuintes later and it worked fine (Had power, no reason to suspect starter or seloniod). This was fine for a few months. Then it got worse and wouldn't work for a large part of the time. Security light would be on and all that. I called the chevy dealer and they said it was probably the key or keyswitch (tumbler) so i took them my key and they make me a new one and sold me a new switch. Put it in still did the same thing. I replaced the relay in the kick panel with one form a 89 irocz that worked in july until it was wrecked. Still didn't fix the problem. So that is where Im at what else can I do?


Started and everything works fine until this acts up.

Any help would be very appreciated.

 

Have you thought about the VATS control module which is located on the driver side firewall below the defog vent ducts?

 

I'll replace it with one on a 89 that i have (wrecked), and see if that works. thanks a lot

 

If you do that then you will need to get a get cut that is coded for that module from the 89 car.

 

Take a multimeter and measure the resistance of that thing in your key. Buy a resistor or resistors of the same resistance and wire them into the two wires that connect to the ignition switch. That is what I did with mine and now I dont have to worry about the key making good contact with the terminals that connect it to the vats box. I guess you could pick out the chip in your key and wire that in if you ant find the resistors.
