Speedometer woes....

I have only had my car on the road for a few days now. The first night I drove it, the speedometer didn't work. The tach and the odometers both worked, just no speedometer. The next day, I was driving to school when I noticed the speedometer has started working again. Then today, I was driving home from work, and my speedometer was out again. The tach and the odometer were both operating, just no speedometer. Any guesses as to what might be wrong? I don't have alot of experience with cars.

thanks,

Alex

since you have a 91 firebird your speedo is electric. The odometer and speedometer work off of the same signal wire. Your speedometer probably needs to be replaced.

It seems to be working most of the time now. I did figure out that if it is not working, if I pound on the dash, it will come back to life. So, I think that it is the speedometer itself......Maybe...

Might just need to look in there and seeif you can clean contacts. On my mustang the gauges that are electronic all connect to the circuit paper pieces with thin metal connectors.

Speedo on my car dont work but it aint electronic so I'll be looking forward to a cable install
