Where does the engine ground from battery go to?

I did an engine swap and I found the heavy gauge ground cable from the negative battery terminal and I'm wondering where it bolts to on the engine.

i put mine on the exaust manifold.. although i am having second thoughts about that idea... not that it is melting anything.. just that i think it may be causing a misfire lol

Well now that I know where NOT to put it.... hahaha.

That's really odd, a good connection shouldn't matter where it's connected too. And its still grounded via the chassis.

Normally they are bolted towards the bottom of the motor

Heavy gage wire should be bolted to the engine, and a jumper from engine to chassis.

I guess I should be more specific. Where (which bolt hole) was it bolted to on the stock engine?

Every thirdgen I have come across had the battery grounded to chassis, engine grounded in back to chassis, and a heavy gauge wire from battery to alternator bracket on v belts and a/c bracket on serp. setups.

Mine must go to AC since alternator is on the passenger side and the cable won't reach. I'm sure any accessory bolt will work.

the altenator is on the passenger side of all of the 305/350 engines.. and the battery tray is on the passenger side too..... shouldn't it be able to reach then? You can buy longer straps as well. but yea. you would think it would work well anywhere... but things are always odd sometimes.. I will go out tommorrow and look at the Z28 or the other Burly and see exactly where the straps in the back connect and the one for the battery and such... maybe take a picture or two.. should make things alot easy lol. pictures always do

That is.. not really correct.

As far as the ground from the battery, it doesn't matter where it goes on the engine as long as there is a good connection there and at the engine to chassis strap.

Firebirds have battery on drivers side. Alternator on passenger side... see the dilemma? I'm sure I'll find a stop to bolt it to, I was just curious what the stock routing was.

I know you've got allot of electronics going, and probably want the best electrical system you can muster, right? That said, best place is back of the alt., but that's not as good an option for you. Any bolt on the engine will work. But if you're really pulling a lot of current and trying to knock out that last couple of miliohms you can run anther ground from the back of the alt. to the chassis on the pass side. If you're pulling much over 100A every little bit helps. At a 100A it only takes 0.001 ohm to get 0.1V drop.

I have never moved mine and its right here on the head, (my a/c compressor used to be where the alt is)
