headlight problem, I'm stumped.

Ok so I had a glitch that popped up on me all of a sudden last fall. I didn't realized how bad it was until this evening.

When I have the driving lights on with low beams, the right hand signal light is just barely lit on the indicator on the dash. With high beams the right hand signal light is fully bright. Also, using the turn signal to the right does nothing. With no lights on, everything seems fine including the right turn signal.

Today I went out and actually had a look at the front of the car with and without the driving lights on. I shot some pics, have a look below.

I've quickly gone through all the wiring, relays, and fuses and everything appears to be good. I've unplugged and plugged in all the lights and everything there seems fine to? This glitch started right after I got my car back from the shop in the fall, but they only worked on my suspension brakes and rear end (shocks, struts, sway bars, wonder bar, all new bushings, rear end, disc brakes front and rear, gear ratio, etc).

Ok this first shot is low beams only.. its hard to tell from the shot but the high beam lights are ever soo slightly illuminated.. like just barely glowing.

This second shot is high beams on only. Driving lights are OFF. It is just as it appears, the passenger side and drivers side driving lights and passenger side headlights are dim. The park light on the front and the side amber marker light on the front fender is also out.

This shot is low beams with driving lights ON. Now the high beam light on the drivers side is also dim

Last image. Park lights on with driving lights on. Passenger side park light is dimmer then usual and passenger side driving light is dim. Also it is hard to tell from the image but the high beam lights on both sides are ever soo slightly on, just barely illuminated.

I had the same issue with a Blazer I own. turned out to be a bad ground on one light. the plug was not grounding to the light light itself. could wiggle the plug and the low beam would go from to back to bright and the high beams that were barley on would go out.. Had to change headlight plug to cure the problem permently.

try taking out each relay and cleaning them and remove the headlight switch and clean and check it.

Headlight problems

I just finished cleaning all the grounds on a friends 87 camaro. Same problems you are having. After cleaning and re-tightening the grounds they worked fine. Good Luck.

ok so I finally found some time to mess with it.. and fixed the problem.

the front right hand side 1157 bulb was in the wrong way and I found the ground on the right hand side right above the headlights has two wire leads to it.. one from the driving lights, one from the headlights. This ground was loose, heck it wasn't even finger tight. So I took it off, cleaned it up, retightened it, and problem solved.

Now if only I could figure out why my cruise control doesn't work...
