1987 TPI setup going into a 1986 CARB T/A

1987 TPI setup going into a 1986 CARB T/A

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK.... I've searched the forum from one side to the other and after encountering a dozen or so bad links, have decided to post this question which I PRAY someone on here can answer. I have a 1986 T/A that was my first car.... at least the one I had to buy myself, frome my childhood. I love this car and have had it off the road for quite a while now trying to finish up this project.
The car came with a 305 Carb engine, which I had replaced with a 350. It ran OK but I decided to go TPI to help with fuel economy and overall driveability. I have installed the TPI and the harness, which was all chopped to pieces. I am sure that the connections for the engine harness are all good with the exception of this problem.
In doing my research at the onset of the project I was unaware of the under dash harness being pinned differently between 1987 and 1986. Is it possible to rewire the under dash connections to match the 1987 setup? If so, does anyone have a pinout of the under dash connections for 86 & 87? I know I will have to supply power for the injectors and fuel pump, which is a separate plug. However, the under dash connection is driving me crazy. Also, if a pinout change will not work, what would be a recomended approach?

Any help would be rewarded with the gratitude of one who is trying to bring his car back to life.....

I got this from an old post, it's the wires from the instrument panel for your car without fuel injection:

Pin “A”: Air Switching Solenoid (brown)
Pin “B”
Pin “C”: Light driver module (white/dark green)
Pin “D”: Fuel pump control fuse (orange/black orange)
Pin “E”: ALDL connection (white/black)
Pin “F”: Engine ECM fuse (pink/black)
Pin “G”: Back up switch (dark blue manuals)(light green automatics)
Pin “H”: Upshift indicator (tan/black)
Pin “J”: Fuel pump relay (purple/white)
Pin “K”: VSS (brown VIN G) (brown brown/yellow VIN H)
Pin “L”: Fuel tank unit (tan/white)
Pin “M”: Engine ground (black/white VIN H digital dash) (VIN H & G gages)
Pin “N”: Park/neutral switch (orange/black VIN H)
Pin “P”: Brake switch (purple VIN H)
Pin “R”: Auxiliary coolant fan (brown VIN G)

I'll look around and see if I can't find the rest of what you need after I get some sleep. You might also try to go to http://www.chevythunder.com HTH

No problem, I went through the same thing almost. I had an 89 and I was using the harness from an 86.

The amazing thing was that, I'd searched everywhere trying to find out the pinouts for the underdash on the 86.... nothing. Tried searching for the 87 pinouts.... Nothing... And all I heard from anyone I asked was to get an underdash harness out of an 87... Easier said than done... Was your's a conversion from carb to TPI?

I went from mpfi v6 to tpi v8. I think it took me a few months of working on it for an hour a day. I made the inside harness different and the outside harness different. It probably wasn't the right way to do it, but it worked. Now I'm doing the swap on my 91.

After I found out that the connector was c207, it was easier to figure out what was going on. Take a look at this.
