Hatch pulldown motor won't stop

The motor makes strange chirping noises after it has finished closing. I suspect that it's still trying to pull the hatch down. Would it be the motor, or a limit switch?

Anybody have any ideas? Should this be in a different forum?

Motor won't stop = bad gear nut. Available from GM or my web site. ------->

I had a similar problem with my 91. Turns out that my limiter switch was bad. I had replaced the reverse solenoid thinking the switch was bad, but nope...limiter switch. So if Lonsal's idea doesn't pan out, hit up a junkyard for a limiter switch.

i wasn't sure if it was the switch, or the motor. I'll swap the switch and see what happens.

FYI, there are two switches on the pull-down unit. The striker-sensing switch and the reversing switch. The striker-sensing switch is just in front of the latch as you look at the pull-down unit from the rear of the car. That switch also contains all the wiring for the pull-down unit. The relay plugs inot it, the flat white connector plugs into the reversing switch The red/white stripe wire plugs into the blue wire. On 86-87 that will be a large white connector. On 88-91 it is a small black connector. Then connect the ground wire. The second switch attaches to the clear plastic motor housing with a Phillips-head screw. Two terminals from the reversign switch snap onto the tabs that power the motor. There is a tab on the reversing switch that must slip into a slot on the clear plastic motor housing. Also it is important to make sure the switch that flips on it is located between the two tabs of the lift rod that raises and lowers the latch portion. The easiest way to do that is to flip the switch down to install it and install the gear nut onto the threaded shaft of the lift rod with about 7-1/2 turns. This will properly place the reversing switch so it can be installed correctly. I hope this helps.
