can I wire 5 relays into one IGN output on fuse block?
Is it safe to run 5 relays off one terminal in the fuse block. The relays need a 12v switched ign source(terminal 86) on the relay. SOme people wire terminal 86 directly to the battery but I do not want them to have constant power when the car is off so I want to wire them up to a fused ign. source. if that is not safe, then what is the best method? The relays are for a fuel pump, 2 fans, and a low beam and high beam headlight harness mod. I am running a stand alone FAST ECU so the majority of my circuits in the fuse block are uselss now. The reason for doing all this is to rewire the car with larger gauge wire and clean up the wiring mess that GM did to it.

That should work. The control coil only draws about .25 Amps. I am assuming that you will be using a switch to control each relays after the fuse.

what do you mean by switch to control them? The fuel pump one wil also be on. the 2 fan relays will be controled by the ECU. and the 2 relays for the headlights(low and high beam) will be controled by me turing the lights on and off. I dont know what else you mean.

if the fans are controlled by the ECU then shouldn't the switched power come from the ECU and not the fuse block?

not sure if this PDF pic will load but take a look at terminals 86 on the relays. Now add in a total of 5 relays. your saying it will be ok to splice all 5 of the wires coming off terminals 86 on the 5 realys and putting them all into one of those spare IGN/ACC spots in the fuse block. Where should I add inline fuses in their? nevermind the pic, I cant seem to load 2 duplicate files. Hereis a link to the thread it is in.

Yes all five of the relays terminal 86 wires could go to one fuse in the fuse panel and use a 2 or 3 Amp fuse. As for the switch to get the most out of the relays you would want to mount them under the hood and connect terminal 30 to the battery and use the old headlight wires to connect to terminal 86. Mike

mount the relays under the hood or the switch? And by switch, you mean a switched 12v source correct. Ill just let the fuse block be the switched 12volt source when I turn the key foward. These relays will be hard wired into the car and I do not want any control over them. They will do there job by themselves

What is the purpose of the relays for the headlights? If you simply want to turn the lights off with the key and still be able to control them with the headlight switch you could just use an ignition switched power to feed the headlight switch. But to use the relays to increase the power avalible to the headlights you would want to mount the relays under the hood. And use the headlight switch to control the relays.

the purpose of the relays for the headlights is to get the strain off the headlight switch and to get more power to the lights. There is a tech article on it with a drawing of a "new" headlight harness with 2 relays built right into it

I just took alook at my fuse block and there is about 4 fuses in there that serve no pirpose anymore since I ripped out the stock harness for the engine and computer. Could I just use those for the relays or will I be creating toomuch work for myself? The fuses that are not doing sanything are the ECM, ING 1, ING 2, and VATS. Im sure those circuits are only hot when the ignitionis in the start and run postion

Any of those fuses should be good. Just use about a 3 amp fuse. As for the headlights that is what I thought you were trying to do. The relays for that are mounted near the battery and terminal 86 is connected to the orignal low and high beam wires. The orignal power supply for the headlights will be used to control the relays through the headlight switch and dimmer switch. Mike

If I pull the fuse block down and look at it from the oppisite side, will it be pretty straight foward on hooking up my new wirng to the exiting fuses? Like i said, I want to rewire my 2 fans with their own relays along with the fuel pump and headlights. I plan on mounting all the realys on a panel somewhere near thebattery out of sight and routing al the wires from there. All the relays will get there power at terminal 30 from the battery. They will all be grounded somewhere close to the body where I mount them. Now if I go that route and run 1 wire from the fuse block to all the relays at terminals 86 where will the circuit breakers go and should I install seperate inline fuses on each power wire under the relay? Im trying to make this as simple as possible but I dont want to take any shortcuts. I just want my relays to be wired safe. I will be running 10 gauge wire for these circuits.

also, what size relays will be good for these things? I have a bunch of new 20/30 relays lying around. Should I get 40A ones instead?
