Anyone know what this is?

Its right above the hump and i'm thinking it has something to do with the gas tank? Nothing is connected on the other side.

That is for the guy that cut that great big *** hole so he could replace the fuel pump/sender.You remove it go and find him wrap it around his kneck and just befor he passes out turn him around ,slap the crap out of him ,and tell him that if he ever comes near your car again you will repair the hole with his head! If it was you who cut the hole have your buddy do it!!
Just kidding I would probably do the same thing if I had to,but as far as what that is I'm not sure.I know you said nothing plugs into it on the other side/but what does it look like...is there a plug/ is there nothing?
Good luck,
Mike

Good luck,

all very funny stuff but seriously it is for the fuel pump power and fuel gauge wires. there should be a connector going to the fuel sender on the other side. Mike

There is a plug on the other side but I was just saying there is nothing plugged into it. The hole is for the bottom of a fuel cell. This is a friends car and he couldnt find anything in chiltons either so he asked to me post it and see what it was. Thanks

exactlly, thats what its for.... purple is power for the fuel pump power... i think the other 2 are grey and black, gray is for the fuel level indicator, and black is ground i believe? CMIIW

Teal, if you are referring to the wire in that picture, it is indeed for the fuel sending unit located in the top of the fuel tank. BTW, are those some big cracks that I see radiating out from that hole in the frame there?

A wrong cut here or there is easily possible. The tank is extremely close to the shell sheetmetal (w/in ½"-ish).
The 'fuel pump door' idea really isn't that bad of a concept except for the hard line connections are not made anywhere close to the sender.
Most who do this cut the lines then clamp high pressure fuel hose back in place.
I wouldn't be opposed to this approach if the 'saginaw' (push connect w/o-ring) flare wasn't so expensive to reproduce.
It would be t--s to yank up the carpet, open a hatch door, yank the pump, replace & reverse process instead of the drop everything approach.
I've changed 4 to date (not all in one car)... and.. still sucks.
Just my opinoin though...
