unknown connector
i'm swapping out the stock center console in my car, just as i'm about to put the new console back in, i saw this connector next to the shifter & i don't know what it goes to, it's a black rectangle with 5-6 wires coming out of it in a line, purple, yellow, orange, blue, green & purple with a white stripe, i think are the colors (probably not in that order), the purple & yellow wires are a little bigger than the rest, what is it suppose to hook to?

At first I was thinking console clock but I don't belive that was avaible in any Firebirds(plus to many wires for the ****).Did you car come from the factory as a manual trans?if not this would take it back to the neutral safety switch(the switch and wiring might be a standard part of all interior harness). The only other thing I can think of is the connector for power mirror switch.

i just went out and looked and its not plugged into anything and i have a 5 speed also. i have my whole dash and console out and have noticed alot of connectors not plugged in. the only thing i can think of is GM made a wiring harness that thay used in differnt models.

Some cars were pre-wired for options they didn't recieve.
My 87 had a auto shifter harness and wiring for power mirrows... it had neither.
The neutral saftey wiring is tied (parallel) to the clutch switch wiring though
My 91 has the power window/lock breakers in the fuse panel... neither present in the car.
