trouble with keyless entry and custom door

I have installed the reciever for my keyless entry, and it works so far. But I can't get the damn wires to lock and unlock the solenoids. All I can get it to do is LOCK, or UNLOCK. One of the two but not both. I have the:
POWER
GROUND
and
2 WIRES (one for lock and one for unlock.

The solenoids have 2 wires... Note: I am using a painless wireing harness and and am making custom door panels that will not have any buttons on them, How do I do this, I can't get it to work!!!!

I have the working solenoids, and the working keyless entry, it seems like I have amising link. Can someone help me figure out how to do this. I know I need to reverse the polarity of the connection, but can't seem to find out how to do it.

By the way, please to not say connect to the lock button or something like that. That is what the instructions say, if I had that button or if any of my wiring was stock, I would do that, but I can't. There has got to be someone in here that knows fundamentaly how the sytem works and how to link up the 2 parts that I have.

Thanks in advance.

why not just leave it the way it is? do you really need them to both lock at the same time?

You need to use two relays. It is fairly simple. connect one wire from the lock solenoid to terminal 30 on each relay. Connect terminal 87a of both relays to Ground. Connect terminal 87 to a 12v power source. Connect terminal 85 to ground. Then connect the lock wire from the keyless entry to terminal 86 on whichever relay locks the door and then connect the unlock wire to terminal 86 on the other relay. Or you can get a stock lock/unlock relay. If you need more help just ask. Mike

WOW! 83z28camaro, that was a great post. Sux that I just got to work and will have to wait all day to get home and try it out. As I understand it, I need to 2 relays per door correct? Looks like I do. But anyways, I will see if this does the trick. If it does, then MAN I can't tell you how good it will be. I have wired the entire car up myslef, from scratch, with a painless harness... Not all that painless. hehe. But everything is working exept this. Thank you again. Looks like I might finish this beast before winter afterall.

one last thing... Don't mean to be picky, but can you list what each wire needs to do/go.

You only mentioned 1 of the 2 wires coming from the lock solenoid. Also can all the relay grounds be souldered togeather as one big ground? You said that 87a and that 85 go to ground. Just double checking...

appart form that I think I get it all. I will try tonight and post my victory of defeat tomorrow. If it is the later, then I will have a whole new group of questions. Thanks for all the help so far.

You only need a total of two relays. Mount the relays under the dash and run the solenoid wires to them. One wire from each solenoid goes to terminal 30 on one relay and the other two wires go to terminal 30 on the other relay. Just make sure you use the same two wires on each solenoid or they will work oppisite. Yes I know what you mean about painless harnesses. And yes all the grounds can be connected.

Terminal 86 relay trigger either lock or unlock depends on the relay
Terminal 85 and 87a ground
Terminal 30 Wires to the solenoids
Terminal 87 12v power source

When wired properly when one relay is triggered by supplying 12volts to terminal 86 it will connect terminal 30 and 87 supplying 12volts to the solenoids while the untriggered relay will have the normally closed contacts terminal 87a supplying a ground to the solenoids.
Then when the other relay is triggered it will supply power and ground oppisite of before.

You may want to try wiring it up on the bench before wiring it up in the car to get an idea of how it all works.

Mike

You made it seem like there are more than 2 wires coming from the lock solenoids? Did you mean to do this or did I missunderstand? Thanks again.

I am having trouble descriping this so I made a simple diagram. The wire colors may not be right and you will have to figure out which relay makes it lock and unlock then connect the control wires accordingly. Mike

That is exactly what I did. And I am more than happy to say. IT ALL WORKS GREAT!!!

Thanks so much. I sorta figured thats what you ment about the other solenoid wire. I wired it all up out of the car and tested it. BAM it was all perfect the first time. Then I did it all in my car. I also wired up the windows too. Now all the wiring is done in the car. Thanks so much. I would have been stuck in the dark.

Thanks again.
