alt wiring problem

Engine: 1969 360 sbc
Transmission: th350
Axle/Gears: posi 4.11 gear
alt wiring problem

ok first off i have a 91 trans am that i put in a 1969 350 sbc and all the v-belt stuff. ok here is my problem i keep going threw alts like 1 every 2 weeks
i have the power wire ran from the battery to the alt and it is a good connection also i have a ground from the frame to the alt housing also a good ground the 2 wires that come out of the alt red and black the red one goes to the starter and does anyone know where the black wire goes because i think that is my problem i might have a short somwhere if anyone could help that would be great thanks

My haynes for 1990 and later models says, red goes through fusible link G (RUST)turns black and goes to battery. Another Red goes through fusible link J (RUST) junction block and back to battery. Brown goes to FAN FUSE 20A. Hope that's of any help.
