Car: 86 Iroc Z/89 Firebird Formula
Engine: 355/305tpi
gotta be a way !!!

Is there a way to find out the ohms of your vats system with out the old keys , bought a 89 formula that the owner had lost the keys...dealer tells me car is to old and they cant pull up the origanal vats value.got to be an easier way to do this without buying all the reistors to make up the values of all 15 keys .....any help i am losing my hair on this one

If you don't have the key how are you going to turn the ignition switch?

truegmman, try another dealer, other wise, its resistor trying time.

ringo234, a new VATS lock cylinder comes with a key without the VATS pellet in it, its only use is to cut a new key that has the right pellet in it.

I will try another dealer and hope that will work before I try the reistor trick. Didnt know if there were certain values gm used for certain car lines or threw in what ever they wanted out of the 15 values

Have a key made without VATS. Buy a bunch(or 15) of resistors (or buy a variable resistor also known as a potentiometer, but you'll need an ohmmeter/multimeter to measure the resistance) from Radio Shack and hook them up like you would for VATS delete. Should be able to hunt down the correct value that way.
