what are these wires in my console ; 82 trans am ?

in my console wiring there is an orange with black stripe and a solid orange wire next to each other and the ends are cut off, i was thinking cigar lighter since i dont see a plug for one anywhere ?
is this correct ?
-------------
also there is a single light brown single wire in this harness that is cut off too,
you can see the bare stranded end of it where the two red crimp connectors are in the pic
what would this be ?
--------------
and under the dash driver side sort of near the column there are five wires hacked off,
maybe it was the ALDL connector ?
theres:
1. yellow
2. white with black stripe
3. tan with black stripe
4. brown
5. black with white stripe
apparently if it is the ALDL connector wires then the ECM harness was not part of it ?
because i removed the ECM and engine control harness a couple years ago,
unless the harness between the ECM and the ALDL connector is all only under the dash and doesnt come out when you remove the engine control harness ?
it is a factory LG4 200C car
thanks for anything

Ok
I have an 82 Z28 Camaro with the V8 CrossFire engine. I pulled by ALDL connector and found that I have 8 wires going to it. You are only showing 5 wires. After spending a bit of time reading the 82 Camaro service manual, I discovered that the V6 and the V8 (non corssfire) only had 5 wires connected to the ALDL connector. See the attached sketch. The sketch shows a Yellow/Black wire where you say you have a yellow wire.
There is a Instrument Panel (I/P) wiring harness that is separate from the ECM harness that goes to the engine compartment. The I/P harness runs from the passenger side near the ECM to the driver's side under the dash. It would not come out when you remove the ECM harness to the engine compartment.
Sxxx is a wire splice in the circuit.
S121: I/P harness near ECM
S213: Engine Compartment near blower motor
S217, S219: Behind RH side of I/P near ECM
Cxxx is a connector, with the terminal number shown.
C233 is the ALDL connector
C232 & C231 are the connectors to the ECM
C207 is a 15 point connector at the right side of the I/P harness, near the ECM
The Light Driver Module is supposed to be TAPED to the I/P harness near the console. Not sure if this means the center console or the Gage Panel
These are guesses:
In the console are large BROWN wire driver's side power window “Down”
Orange: Hatch release?
Orange/Black: Gear Selector Switch?
In my Camaro, the Cigar Lighter is located on the dash, on the right hand side of the Gage panel, not sure where they are in the Firebirds. It does have an Orange wire feeding power to it.
I made the sketch because I would have had to scan about 5 pages from the service manual. Here you have one sheet
Hope this helps some....

The '83 camaro service manual shows 2 solid yellows for the SES lamp driver(along with a pink/black,white/dark green and black). This is for the LG4 & LG1 motors.
There is also a brown wire in the ALDL bundle.
The solid orange in the console is probably for the cigarette lighter. The orange/black could be for power mirrors.did the '82-'84 firebirds have the mirror switch on the console or on the door?

it has manual mirrors, or at least the passenger side one i know since it has a manual finger joystick thingy on it
heres my ECM harness plugs on the passenger side under the dash

what is SES, i forgot what that is now
wouldnt the black striped orange wire next to the solid orange be the ground side of the cig lighter ?
my gear selector and power window wires are fine and not cut and still all plugged in, so is everything else besides sterio and the cig lighter
power lock wires are all in the doors only right ? wouldnt be console switches for locks in an 82 right?
i have no other cut outs in my console top except for two window switch ones, so hmmm.
i think i figured out that the single brown wire is part of the radio wiring since it is in the same harness as the radio one
i have no idea if the car had power hatch or release or what, no buildsheet or rpo sticker, i stripped all the interior out to find the rpo and there was none,
someone beat me to it it seems :/
there is a single orange and a single white wire both hanging down in the cargo well and is
no motor or release solenoid assembly, just a manual latch assembly is all.
heres a pic of that:

any ideas ?
thanks

SES = Service Engine Soon,I have a '95 Jimmy and sometimes forget to call it Check Engine Light.
No the ground, all grounds, for the lighter would be black.
Power lock wiring should all be in the doors and under/behind the dash.
The brown wire in your radio harness should be for the left rear speaker(but I'd have to look in my car to see if it's positive or negative).
The orange and white wires in the hatch well are for the light switch and the light for that area. Also was the Firebird's hatch release on the console or dash '82-'84?The reason i ask is the harness could still be there even if the car didn't come with it.
Now keep in mind this is all out of the '83 Camaro service manual but I can't see there would be that much difference in most of the harness. And remember the '82-'83,possibly to mid '84,didn't have the SPID decal. If you're lucky you'll find a readable buildsheet or even the window sticker.

It would help if you could seperate the wires in your second and third prictures. Then identify whcih wire color goes to whcih connector point on the connector. It looks like the connector points are identified on the out side, if you look closley. Also how about a photo or two of where both of those harneses go to, towards the dash. There are not that many Orange Black wires in the 82 camaro wiring diagrams. And it actually looks like a black wire with an orangr tracer. However, I don't see any of those in the camaro diagrams.
If the radio had a digital clock, it has a brown wire in the digital clock dimming circuit.
If the car had a RPO of A90, PWR DECK LID in had a solenoid release for the rear. The solenoid would be located just below or on the pass. side of the lock. Also the soleniod would only have one black wire to it. See the attached diagram. This diagram assumes that the release switch was located on the center console.
There was some cross car wiring for the power locks, so both sides lock with the push of the lock button on either side. The remainder of the wiring was in the doors and to a relay located just in front of the driver's side door, near the floor.
For that orange black wire, you might try an ohmmeter test between that wire and the orange black wire on terminal B of the gear selector switch. If you get a short then this was the Park-Neutral Signal to the ECM.
The lights in your third photo, are they the gear selector lamp and the HVAC lamp, with a gray wire in one side and a black wire out the other side?
I think the key is going to be to identify that connector and all the wires into it, from both sides.
Two diagrams are attached. First is the power hatch wiring, the second is the park neutal circuit to the ECM. Both are from the 82 Camaro Service Manual.
Isn't this fun, grouping in the dark

Randy it just dawned on me what the block is in your first picture in the first post.it's the convience center where the horn relay, chock relay-if needed,door/key/seatbelt reminder module and turn signal flasher are located. But I'm sure you knew this as the horn or chovk relay and the falsher is still in it.
As Dave pointed out the lights for the HVAC and gear selector remember all the interior lighting for controls are solid gray and black. And the interior lighting colors are solid white and solid orange.
The solenoid release shared a ground with the hatch light. And the test Dave pointed out for the orange wire is a good idea because the hatch release switch had an interlock with the park/neutral switch(that's the one bad thing about the switch being on the console and between the window switches). There was also a yellow wire.
There's also a brown wire for the blower switch in the HVAC.
I've tried scanning the pages out of my service manual but not having any luck with posting them.If you can find either a Firebird or Camaro factory service manual or a '82-'84 Haynes manual(when the manuals had the factory diagrams)for Firebird or Camaro will really help you out.I found one on Ebay a while back. Also check the electrical repair section on Autozone's website http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBr...3d801c042d.jsp But we'll keep trying here too.

well im having a really hard time here
i know that the solid and black striped orange wires are the cig lighter
but i cant figure out this brown wire in the console
none of my HVAC panel wires are cut
and neither are any of the shift indicator wires
or any of the power window wires
nor any of the light wires- the one for the ashtray and the one for the shift plate indicator
all are fine
this single brown wire is unknown
it looks like it is coming out of the radio harness
is there a brown wire in the radio harness of these cars ?
if so then what is it for
thanks

Run a continuity check from your unkown brown wire to Terminal 4 of the Light Switch. If you get continunity, this brown wire is the dimmer control wire to the digital clock/radio display.
Note that there will be more than one brown wire off terminal 4 of the light switch. The other wire goes park lights, tail lights, etc. You can find the other end of the second wire at connector C200, terminal F. This connector is located in the Upper Left Hand Shroud.
Hope this clears up this mystery

Radio connections, other than speakers for both mono and stereo...
Yellow - Power for radio - from Radio Fuse
Gray - Power for panel light - from insturment panel lights circuit
Brown - Digital Dim Display - from term 4 of Light Switch
Orange - Clock Power - from CTSY Fuse
Black - Ground
Coax - antenna
The Yellow, Gray and Black wires are from connector C203. The Brown and Orange wires are from connector C220.
I will scan a wiring diagram and post it if you would like...

hum interesting, so brown is lights, from the light switch directly
ok
the wiring diagrams i have dont show the sterio wiring
nor do they show terminal numbers
i always thought brown was for exterior lights only and light gray was for interior lights
how confusing,
hum
thanks

Gray is still the insturment ligth circuit in the consle area, including an insturment lamp in the radio, probably the dial light. The brown wire just indicates that the lamps are turned on and dimms the dash area lights, including the digiatl clock and radio dial. Here is the wiring diagram for a stereo unit. A mono unit will be the same except for the speaker circuits.
