Re: hood scope actuator wire?
I can tell you how the Air Induction Hood Scoop works for an 82 Camaro Z28 with the Cross Fire engine. However this setup was discontinued after 1983.
So what type of Air Induction Hood Scoop do you have? I wasn't aware of one for the 84 models. A photo or two would be nice.
Or was the stock hood replaced with one with some type of Air Induction?

Re: hood scope actuator wire?
i have the "turbo scoop hood" on my 84 TA. and it has an electric actuator to open and close a flap to allow cool air directly into the air cleaner. the actuator has a wire that hangs down into the drivers side engine compartment, and when that wire is given power it opens the scoop. i just dont know what i'm supposed to hook it u to. i heard that they were designed to open at wot but i dont care if i have to rig it to a togge switch i just want it to work. I tried to hook it directly to the battery with another wire and it just fried the whole length of wire i had added, so obviously thats not right.

You could hook a relay up with a toggle switch and you'd be good to go. that's what I originally had before I modified it.

Re: hood scope actuator wire?
well now i'm not sure because when i gave it 12volts it fried the wire. i'll try the relay with a heavier wire and maybe an inline fuse. i just dont wanna screw it up because it cant be good to have that thing stuck open in the rain. although just with it zip tied open it seems to breath a litle better now, it will chirp the tires at half hrottle.

When the ECM detects WOT, porbably from TPS input, it operates a WOT relay. The WOT relay provides power to the soleniod that open the hood scoops.
The WOT realy is the same type of relay as the fuel pump relay. It is mounted to the right of the fuel pump relay on the fire wall on the driver's side. The WOT relay contact is connected to a Pink/Black wire in(hot when IGN is on) and Orange out. This provides power to the solenoid.
I am wondering if your car does not have a similar setup, where the ECM detects A WOT condition and operates a realy that drives the solenoid to open the hood scoops?????
The attached photo shows the fuel pump relay on the left, a sensor in the center, and the WOT realy on the right.
The wire burned up for several reasons.... No Fuse to protect it and the downstream devices scuh as the soleniod.....Wire guage was too small for the current draw of the solenoid

....or there is a short in the circuit some where in the circuit
Also from the wiring diagrams sticky at the top of the board, take a look at the 84 5.0L Engine Wiring Diagram. Note on the center to bottom right for TRANS AM ONLY.... a bunch of relays in series, with the Hood solenoid last.......
