New lighter doesnt work
I just bought a whole new lighter assembly(housing, retainer, and lighter). I plug it in, put the lighter in all the way into its housing, and nothing.

Use a test light to test the wire connecting to the lighter for power first. If you've got power at the wire, connect it to the new assembly & make sure the assembly is grounded. You can probe the center of the lighter assembly with your test light to see if the assembly has power. If no power, check your fuses - although you would have other devices not working with a bad fuse. Do a little detective work and post back.

Test light shows that the housing works, but when i push the lighter in, the lighter doesnt heat up.

Make sure the housing is grounded. Where did you ground the test light? The lighter ground wire should be connected to the outside of the housing. Check to make sure it is hooked up at both ends. You can also run a temporary ground - use a piece of scrap wire. Connect one end to the ligher assy housing and the other to a good ground (perhaps where your test light ground was). Then check to see if lighter gets hot. If it does you got a bad ground wire. The complete circuit is power (+12v) flows into the center of lighter assy through the lighter coil (heating it up) and back to ground - gotta have a complete circuit for it to work.

Well it actually turns out that the adapter's band wasnt touching the retainer. I went back to the dealer and asked how much a new adapter for it was. $70. I returned it and really cleaned up my old one. Thanks for you help though.
