If you don't have TPI, TBI, Vortec, I see no reason to leave it in.
T5s & 700R4s aren't computer controlled...
Not sure if anything else, like gauges, warning light, etc., have anything to do with the ECU.

Nope. TH350s never had any computer controls. Not until the 4L60E were tranny computer controlled.

Re: ECU? Do i need this?
dose the ECU use the knock sensor and dose it controll any of the guages?
Coz I think the only thing mine dose is beep when the lights are on and the ignition is off.
What exactly dose the computer do?

well the ECU has about 20 wires going to 20 and going out to things like TPS, Emisions, ESA/VAST, and Fuel injection to preform self diagnostics or checks. Since 1979 5.7 engines don't really rely on any of these things or at least in my case i think (still unsure) its not really needed... i just dont wanna screw things up

Re: ECU? Do i need this?
I took mine out, it is a 85 berli, switched to a edelbrock carb, when the quadrajet died. My digi dash still works, all the gauges work, I think it only controls engine related stuff like the quadrajet or f.i. Since your engine is a 79 350 it don't have any computer controls, you should only have a few wires runing to the engine, since my wiring was all hacked up anyways, I took the computer out, and all the extra wires, only wiring left is ignition, lights, gauges, alt, starter and stereo. Mine runs better with the non comp carb and intake and non comp dizzy. I don't know if my idiot lights work, all ways watch my gauges, and I know they work, the little gas light comes on when I get low on gas.
Oh, when you pull the comp, it may set off your check engine light, It set my light off till I pulled the bulb
