Alternator Issues
Hopefully someone has experienced this one before. Here is the symptoms: Voltage gauge is always below 12, turn signals don't work if the head-lights are on, If I turn on anything (ex. stereo, defrost) the voltage gauge drops to the red. At higher RPM's it does a little better, that makes sense due to the alternator being spun faster. Here is what is stumping me, the battery never dies. I could idle the car all day at 800 RPM's with every gadget and light I have turned on, shut the car off, and the battery is still fully charged. This dosen't make any sense to me, I would normally write this off as a bad voltage gauge, but I still have the issue with the turn signals. Someone told me that I could put a smaller pully on the alternator, that sounds like a bad idea to me though, I figure it will wear it out sooner. The alternator that is on it is three years old, but the car was garaged for two of those years. If anyone has any ideas it would greatly be appreciated! Thanks, J...

Connect a test meter to your bat.
With the engine running
and your RPM high enuff so your alt is on,
turn on all your headlights. If the bat voltage is 12
or better you have a bad connection in the wiring.
