HELP! Fuse 11 (interoir lights) keeps blowing! in shop costing $75/hr!!

So my tech is having trouble find out why fuse 11 keeps blowing. the fuse blows as soon and the fuse hits the fuse box. This fuse controls power locks, interior lights, lighter, horn, trunk open, etc.

he said he spent an hour looking for simple problems and found none.

Has anyone run into this?

The only thing I didn't check before it went to the shop was the lighter. if this $2 part is the problem, I'm gonna throw myself off the near pier!!

thanks for reading!!! thanks for the help in advance!!!

Ive had the cigarette lighter problem before in another vehicle, actually now that I think about it, my old 84 z28. I just diconnected the wires and taped them off. Another thing is you might have a grounding wire. do a continuity check for high resistence on grounds/hots and voltage drops for the hots. Also try a different cig lighter, alot easier and just pull one off another car that fits. I would also disconnect everything it controls put a fuse in and start plugging items in until it blows. Just as a recap, in my experience its always been the lighter or lighter plug-in. Hope this helps, let me know.

Re: HELP! Fuse 11 (interoir lights) keeps blowing! in shop costing $75/hr!!

Have you done any work to the car recently ??? If the fuse is blowing the second it hits the box than there is most likely a power wire touching the body ( ground ) somewhere. Or perhaps a penny in the cig lighter ??

I did some work to my cluster one time and once everything was back together the Accessory fuse blew out every time I hit the rear hatch release. It turns out that the power wire for the hatch release got pinched between the column bracket and the dash housing when I was working on the cluster. I'm saying this because you might have done work in one area of the car that seems totally unrelated to the problem circuit - but it has effected the wiring in a (bad) way !

My guess ( if there's no penny in the cig lighter! ) is that one of the accessories running from this fuse has it's orange wire touching the body somwhere.

Here's a copy of the ACC fuse from an 86 Firebird. Your 85 must be similar !

Good Luck !
