Attempt at a Revivial
I just bought an IROC that is in less than a salvageable state. It is a complete car however, and has many options and goodies. Since i cannot fix the IROC I'd like to use the savable pieces to restore my 91 RS. The irocs options are as follows.
IROC:
Power windows
Power Door Locks
Power Hatch Release
145mph Speedometer
305 w/ TPI
T-Tops
The RS's options are as follows
RS:
The almighty 3.1l
Manual doors
Manual Locks
No hatch release
Power hatch pull down
Hard top
110mph speedometer
What i need to know answers to are the following Q's:
1. What do i need to do to save the power window system, the power lock system, and the power hatch release system.
2. How complicated is the 3.1l to 305 TPI swap? What all must i salvage off of the IROC?
3. what do i need to change to swap in the 145mph speedometer?
4. I'm afraid to do this myself, but how daunting is the hard top to t-top swap?
I plan on basically making my RS into a COPO-IROC. Lol, i know some of you are screaming blasphemy, but would you rather see it crushed?
Help would be nice, and criticism would be humorous.
Thanks fellas,
~Austin

Re: Attempt at a Revivial
For the TPI swap (Which I have done) You must salveage the motor mounts, transmission, wiring harness, accessories..... Basically anything that makes it an 8 cylinder. Thw wiring harness is the biggest pain. I just ended up making my own harness and using a megasquirt system.
I also added power locks to my car. I am not quite sure the appropriate way to wire them , as I made my own relay system and wiring harness for them. I know there is a lock module that gets power through the accessory fuse. You need to add this to your car and run the wires. It may be easier to replace the entire door on your car, rather then try to add the power locks and windows to your existing door.
Basically, strip both cars down so you can see the wiring harness, trace the wires in the IROC, and add them to your car. It will be fun !

Also, check out the rear end of the IROC. It may be a disc rear end with posi, or something nice.
If you swap the rear end from drum to disc, you need to change the proportioning valve, which is located on the master cylinder.

it may still be a posi unit even with drums, I'm not sure though. You'll probably need that v8 rear for the proper gearing.

Been there, done that (NEVER AGAIN). Transplant all of it! The easiest part is the rear end swap. Just heed and follow the advice above.

82-89 mechanical, 90-92 electric. There's no direct swap between those two sets of years. Otherwise, it's a plug and play situation.

Why mess with the structural integrity of a couple (IMO, the coupe is far surperior to the t-tops--and you don't have to worry about leaking)?

Re: Attempt at a Revivial
If you want the speedo the easiest way is to basically strip both cars all the way down, and then put all the IROC pieces on the RS shell. Swap the dash, harness, ECU, etc. You'll basically be using the RS shell as a donor and then use all the V8 pieces on it.
