If i try to start my car, but it doesnt even turn over, then i retry and it will turn over and start, it could be my starter solinoid?

Re: Am I right.

well if i try to start it and it doesnt, I can get it jump started and it will start right up. It seems like i gave it big charge to start it or something. Thats why i thought it was the solenoid. well also i have the little chip on the key off. I took off the resistor on it

Wait....You took the chip OFF the key? Without the chip, the ECM disables starting.

Re: Am I right.

No. You can bypass the little chip thing on your key. It has worked for months now without it.

Re: Am I right.

Yes, you can bypass it. My 89 is bypassed. But there was no mention of it being bypassed, just that it was removed.

I've seen people get standard spares made for a VATS car, then wonder why it won't start.

Re: Am I right.

i agree with beast. check your battery connections and make sure they are not corroded or loose. physically grab a hold of them and move them around. ive had a few cars that acted like they were dead and fired right up after playing with the battery cables

Re: Am I right.

Just because the battery shows proper voltage doesn't mean it has enough amps to start. Since you can jump it and it starts would tell me to check the battery/connections. Have the battery properly load tested.

Re: Am I right.

Well, you need to troubleshoot it a little more to find out what's causing your no-start.
What exactly happens when you turn the key to start and it doesn't? Do you hear a click from the starter solenoid? Does your voltage gauge drop a little? Do you hear any sounds at all? Do your lights dim (yes, try starting with your lights on)? Does anything happen if you hold the key longer? Does it crank if you try to start repeatedly (like every second)?

Lots of questions, I know, but the answers will help you find out what it is.
