Horn prank need help.

Guys I want to play a prank on a friend and wire his horns to come on when he hits the brake pedal. I can't find the horn button in any of the schematics in the FAQ, so I need some insight into it first. Is the wire that runs up the steering column to the horn carry 12v or is it ground?

Re: Horn prank need help.

OK, I found a schematic that showed the horn switch. The wire carriers ground which is what I though. So there goes my plan on hoping the brake light switch goes to ground to energize the horn relay.

Anyone have a different idea for a prank?

Re: Horn prank need help.

Dude, your gonna F up and cause this guy to get either in trouble or crash cause it scares the crap out of him.

Don't go messing with other people's cars like that. Doesn't matter how good of friends you are. You probably wouldn't like someone to rewire your car. Since there is splicing of wires involved, both of which go to safety systems, especially the brake lights I'd advise you to pull a prank a little less invasive. When you start messing with the electrical system you could open up a whole new can of worms for your friend. Especially on a car that's no less than 15 years old.

Playing harmless pranks on your friends is fun, but this could potentially be a harmful or expensive prank. I'd personally be pretty pissed if anyone started splicing wires on my car, no matter how harmless it was intended to be.

Re: Horn prank need help.

Ok, so heres how to pull a really good prank on him and his car! I did this to one of my friends and it was hilarious! So first, you need to pop the hood. I'm guessing since you already considered splicing wires that you have the keys to the car and can navigate most parts of it without any heavy equipment. Next, look on the driver side of the car, on the firewall. Thats where you can find the horn relay. Next you need to find the red wire with white stripe near the radiator, also on the driver side. It should be near the evap canister. The next step is all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down. And I'd like to take a minute - just sit right there and i'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called bel-air.

Re: Horn prank need help.

there's no splicing needed, just run a jumper wire into the back of each of the terminals, easily done. I'm no dumbass with wiring, I just don't have any schematics on third gens. Thanks

What a bunch of idiots. I hope your "friend" isn't like me. If he is, you'd wake up one morning and find your car completely disassembled and scattered in your yard. Ask the guy who thought it was a good idea to put sugar in my gas tank once.

I'm not an "internet tough guy", kid. I dont like people screwing with my car, plain and simple. I'd bet you'd be pretty pissed if someone ****ed with your car too, so grow the hell up and leave it alone.

Re: Horn prank need help.

Hum sure you aren't. Your response speaks to the contrary. Kid? Not hardly. A simple prank that would cause no issues get blown way out of proportion simply because I couldn't find schematics on the car. It's ok, the idea won't work out the way I planned it so I'll think of something else. Don't worry I won't need any assistance.

As for sugar in the gas tank, that's not a prank. Pranks are harmless. I am sure am glad my friends have a sense of humor.

Re: Horn prank need help.

Guys, the guy asked for electrical help. Now you might not agree with what he is doing, and if so, dont answer him. But if your going to post, try and answer his damn question.

And thats nice Uncle Tom that you were willing to shoot somebody over stealing parts off your car. Hurting you or your family is one thing, but over that is just rediculus. And don't flex your muscles with what guns you have, because there are plenty of people on these forums that have bigger and better guns then you, me including.

As for being on topic, if this thread is still open when I get home, Ill look in my manual.

Re: Horn prank need help.

Another good prank............PARTS NEEDED: Bottle of El'Cheepo (cheap) tranny fluid & X feet of vaccum line....... pop his hood, disconnect a vaccume like (like the egr or maybe he has one with a plug on it allready) anyway hook up the hose u have, now find a place to set the transmission fluid so it wont fall over, drill a hole in the cap just big enough for the vaccum line to fit in, shove it all the way in the bottle.............shut hood and sit and wait........here is what will happen, when he fires it up that vaccume line will suck up trans fluid and put it in the intake, making a HUGE cloud of smoke out the exhaust......plus if he crys about it, i been told ny old mechanics that its actually good as it lubes and cleans the valves......... BE WARNED IT IS A HUGE CLOUD OF SMOKE, we did it to a friends POS caviler that smoked some to start with........ well lets say when he left work traffic had to stop to let the smoke clear, MAKE SURE YOUR FRIEND HAS A SENCE OF HUMOR, AS DID OUR FRIEND, WHO THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNER THAN ANYTHING...... AFTER HE FOUND OUT IT WAS A PRANK.........HE FIRST THOUGHT HIS MOTOR WAS TOAST, HE LAUGHED HARDER THAN WE DID

Maybe its just me but tranny fluid going into the engines combustion chamber doesnt sound good.

Heres one you can do, take off his gas cap and replace it with a locking one.

Re: Horn prank need help.

locking gas cap another good one..................BTW the tranny fluid thing, i have herd a few old guys talk of it as an actuall "maintance or fix thing" (lack of better words), not sure, dont seem good but alot of things that dont seem good actually are, i donk know, would like to know if it does actually help, now i KNOW using Seaform, Berrymens, or what have you in a vaccum line does work to clean valves, runners, and your CC, and it will smoke up a storm also.....hell its $5 a bottle, it would actually be a favor that would scare the heck out a friend who didn't know it was hooked up. I do know another "old school mechanic" trick for that kind of stuff is diesel fuel, thats basicly what injector cleaner is................ i will talk to a few "old school mechanics" i know about the tranny fluid thing get them to explain it and see if they will do it to one of their own cars, i will post what i find out if its good or bad

trans fluid = MMO. Alot of goldwing riders use it to keep the motor and carbs clean. Works great too, but too much will smoke up.

This one sucks, makes you look stupid, it's good for a laugh, and it's completely harmless (I know it's been pulled on me)

All you need are some very long zip ties and access to his driveshaft, tie x amount in various places along the driveshaft, them you sit back and watch him as he tries to figure out why his car ticks and taps only while moving!
when/if he figures out what's causing it they'll have a good laugh as well (I know I did)

A lot of the pranks on this page seem harmless. But the horn to the brake pedal idea is a good way to distract somebody when they are trying to negotiate a stop. Accidents could arise out of that.

I like the zip ties idea. I might use that someday.

Re: Horn prank need help.

messing around with the horn or any of the controls like that isn't cool.
i like the zip tie ideal, nice
but its kind of hard to, plus you get dirty doing it.
for something thats quick & easy, some toothpaste under the outer door handles. it works great, you can be done in seconds & the look on their face is priceless. this also works well on the bottom side of the shifter handle.
for escalation, Ben Gay or Atomic bomb works pretty good too, but if they wipe their face or eyes, expect an @ss whipping later on.
also, some Atomic bomb on top of the arm rest gets some pretty amazing results too.

a side note, if someone is stealing something off your car, they deserve what ever bad things happen to them.

Those people are some of the dumbest people I think I have ever seen. Did you see them almost hit that white truck and run the stop sign?? I couldn't understand but two words they said. They need to get off that crack, and go buy some food with there food stamps. Not trading them in for crack.

me? I hate and I mean hate harleys with removed baffles they are so noisy and sound like the eng. is ready to spit out it's valves. the only cool thing is watching those bikes stall in front of my house and barely restart I guess that's what they get for cheap "up grades"

the horn deal is not as bad as you guys are making it out to be. he would hear it as soon as he was going to leave. it's not like he is at a light 5 min later and it goes off. and then hits a bus full of kids pushing it off a cliff

I will agree though I would be pissed if my car was messed with aside from the bubble wrap prank we do every once in awhile. if you get a new guy they slam on the brakes and get out to see what they hit
