Quick question about hatch switch on bird...
I have a quick question that I have not been able to find an answer to. I have an 87 Trans Am and like all our lovely thirdgens, it has the electric hatch lock. Ofcourse, to open the hatch, I just push the button on my dash. I recently bought a remote start/remote door unlock kit which I installed successfully. The kit also has a channel 2/aux setting for trunk release. This is my problem. There is only one wire to use from the remote module. That one wire is negatively charged (meaning it controls the ground circuit). From what I understand, the hatch switch is positively triggered. Since there are 4 wires on the back of the hatch button. 2 I'm guessing for the lighting, and the other two for the switch itself. What do I need to do (which relay to use) to make this work...? If its even possible. I might have tested the wrong wires (forgot the colors) but it seemed that both the button-activated wires were positively charged. I bought a relay, but I don't think its the right one. It has 5 "prongs": 1 for ground, 1 for 12volt, 1 for switch means, and 2 for lights. Would I be able to use this? Thank you

Re: Quick question about hatch switch on bird...
You should be able to use any relay.
You will set it up as follows: (if you are correct and the switch needs a 12 volt signal)
Wire one side of the coil to +12v.
Connect the common to the supply side of the switch (one of the non-lighting wires)
Connect the NO prong to the hatch release (the other wire)
connect the other side of the coil to your remote wire.
There you go.
You can actually wire it in parallel so that the switch still works as well.

ok, so with the current relay I have now:
to the 12volt prong, I add 12volts
and I'm not following where everything else goes...

pretty much I need to know how to convert a ground (-) signal into a 12v(+) signal. The relay I have is this one http://cgi.ebay.com/12V-20-30-AMP-RE...QQcmdZViewItem

OK, doing some homework now (Electrical engineering for Mechanical majors ironically enough)
Ill bust one out when I get done.
You said that the switch has 2 wires,,, one is +12 and the switch just completes the circuit?

Re: Quick question about hatch switch on bird...
On the back of the hatch-release button there are 4 wires. black, gray, something, something. I know two of those wires(black-gray) are used to illuminate the switch itself when the gauge-lights are on. The other two are used to open the hatch when they are touched (or when the button is pressed) so I'm pretty sure, but not positive, that its a circuit, 12v-to-ground, being completed. Thanks again...

Here you go.
If neither of the wires have +12 volts, you can wire 85 to any +12 volt source (fused)

I shall, I haven't gotten a chance to install it yet, I've been busy starting a new job. I will try again tomorrow morning, but if not, then I'll mostlikely get it done this Sat
