How hard would it be to make a secret ignition?

how would you wire up an ignition switch that was a cigarette lighter. Imagen if you will; you push the cig lighter in and it starts the car. Essentially all you need is a cigarette lighter to start the car. how would one go about doing this. (88 camaro iroc 5.7 350)

thanks

Re: How hard would it be to make a secrete ignition?

Well realy easy!

So just cut the wires and wire up a relay.
Like this
#30 starter wire in
#85 ignition
#86 ground to cig lighter
#87 starer wire out

at the cig lighter one wire in and one out to ground then when the lighter is in

So by pushing the lighter in the start will work when key is turned. Realy any wire in the car can do about the same thing

Re: How hard would it be to make a secrete ignition?

back when I was in school we did my monte with the cruise switch being the starter. Just be sure to use a good relay and it is extremely easy (and fun to mess with your friends with)

Re: How hard would it be to make a secrete ignition?

Thanks for your help! however it's just a little different from what
I want. I don't want to even have to use the key in the "on" position. I just want to push the cig lighter in and the car will start. No key at all. If that is what you told me how to do sorry for the misunderstanding. thanks for the help again!

How would you shut off the car?

The lighter is only two positions (on/off) you need start, crank, and run positions... You would need to have another switch .

Re: How hard would it be to make a secrete ignition?

So what is the process exactly? off, acc, and crank, right? I couldn't have it turn on relay that gives power to acc for it to go straight to crank? What does "acc" and "crank" turn on exactly? There has got to be a way because my teacher has it done to his car. It's a Miata so it's a different car but it's not like it's a totally different technology. Thanks for all the brain power guys. keep it coming.

Re: How hard would it be to make a secrete ignition?

Well, the run position is power to all devices except the starter. the crank position is power to select devices needed to run the car and teh starter.

I agree, there is a way to do this... you just need a little more work. (another switch) to get it done.

It would be just as easy...and more useful/impressive (in my opinion) to install this http://cgi.ebay.com/KEYLESS-ENTRY-RE...QQcmdZViewItem
remote start and keyless entry...It only took me a couple of hours to wire everything in my Trans Am...and people thought my car was Nightrider before...check the sig for vid...

You have THAT system...
on YOUR car...
from THAT eBayer,
and your happy/satisfied with it?

If you answer yes to all 4, I'm buying it!

I've been wanting a keyless remote/starter system, but without an alarm. But couldn't find a reasonably priced non-alarm system. I'd prefer a simple lock/unlock only system, but with cold weather on its way, remote starting for heat could be nice too.

Doesn't some of the new cars out now have a push button
start, and only the button I also wonder how you shut it off

on the new cars the start button is also the kill switch. Another issue is you have to break the steering column safety in order to turn the wheel

I have that exact system, but I'm not sure if it was from that seller...I bought it a while ago. I too didn't want an alarm and I didn't want a no-name company made in china. So I went with Directed Electronics which also makes Viper alarms. Cold weather is 80% of the reason why installed it too... Every morning I wake up, go to the window, turn the car on, then go brush my teeth...so I just get in my nice and warm car and go... and the keyless entry has made a world of difference...theres also an option to pop the hatch but I didn't wire that up since I don't go back there much because of the amp and subs....I highly recommend it...

They have a Push Button start, and I've assumed the Start is also a Stop?

Re: How hard would it be to make a secrete ignition?

I think they make some sort of VATS bypass module somewhere on ebay, but I'm not inconvenienced by VATS either...if nothing else, its good for keyless entry...

I've even got a VATS box, with a matching key with it. Anybody know what they are worth together?

Re: How hard would it be to make a secrete ignition?

How about an already built unit? All you'd have to do, is make the **** look like a cigarette lighter...Item # L71 (Ignition/Start Pull Switch) $35

http://www.watsons-streetworks.com/w...cessories.html

L75, for a push to Start/Stop the engine, but it wouldn't pass as a lighter, without some work.
