Got in my car after work today and turned the key to start the car. Nothing happened. I have no lights no nothing. Battery is good, I put in a new one just to see and still nothing. I checked to see if I had power to the starter from the battery I have 12.65 volts. Checked all 3 fusable links at the starter nut and they all have 12.65 volts. I did not check to see if the fusable links are blown since it was 6:20pm and I had a little led light so I cant see very much. I have the hanes repair manual and I am looking at the starting and charging system wiring diagram and I am only seeing one fusiable link shown. What are the other 2 hoked up too. I am not seeing them on any diagram in the book. Any help would be great

You check the ground at the solenoid? One of my other cars and a work truck I used to drive had the same problem one day, turns out the ground was rotten/corroded to the point where it wouldn't even "click click click".

Could try tapping the side of the starter while someone else turns it over, tap the casing with moderate effort and tap the solenoid if you can reach it very lightly. A bit crude but could let you know where the problem is, solenoids are sometimes the culprit.

Check both sides of the fusible links. Start at the battery and work your way forward. Use diagram below to trace wires. The fusible link feeding the ignition switch is suspect.

 

No light, no nothing?
- Turn headlights on. Do they light up? No? Go measure the battery (post) again (with the headlight switch ON). If it shows 12+, cool.
- Measure voltage on the CABLE from the battery. If it shows close to 0, it's a battery terminal connection. Been there.
- If the cable has 12V, go measure the starter solenoid again. 12V on the post? No? Bad battery cable or connection.
- Now measure voltage on the orange wires, not the post. 0? Bad connection somewhere on the post.
- If you have 12V on the orange wires, wiggle them. Do the heglights light up/flicker? Bad fusible links.
- Go inside and pull let's say the courtesy fuse. Measure voltage no the metal clips inside. Nothing? Must be a bad fusible link on the orange wires.

Found The problem. The batt plus terminal on the starter soliniod had broken or loosened up to a point that power could not flow. Fixed that by putting in a new starter soiliniod. Went to start my car and I hear a whine. The starter spun up but the starter drive did not engage into the flywheel. Needless to say I was not happy. After all that work I had to replace the starter anyways. Now all I have to do to it befrore I put it away for storage is fix the fuel leak from my rusty steel lines
