junction box power window wiring Q's

alright im going through a major swap of changing all my wiring in my 89 to wiring from my 86 to make my 86tpi engine work in the 89...

when i've swapped most of the wiring over except for the power options junction box... my question is how can i make my 89 window, locks wiring harness(no junction box) work with my 86 junction box

i was thinking about just wiring up my 89 wiring to thefuse box but i noticed that there is a connection on the fuse box that connects to the junction box that powers the STOP/HAZARD lights... so i decided to keep the junction box so i wont run into problems.

how do i wire my power options to the junction box?

i have a picture of the power connection on the 89

and a picture of a relay that is in the place of where the junction box should be on the 89

Re: junction box power window wiring Q's

If you have a power junction box in your car (connector C238) and it has power going to it. all you have to do is look at how the wiring is for the 86 and use the same connectors. This junction box was eliminated in the latter part of 1989 because of a better design being used for the 1990 models.

Re: junction box power window wiring Q's

maybe your 86 didn't have the power options in it, but trust me there were power options in the 86's and all the other third gen years. I had an 85 Z28 that had the power seats, door locks, windows, and power hatch (release that is). I also have the service manual for it and will try to get you some diagrams.

Re: junction box power window wiring Q's

Since you have the junction box to match the dash harness be sure to install it. That way, when you install any other options all you need to do is plug them in. What you need is 2 connectors to splice onto that 89 window harness. ( I thought the 89 harness was similar to the 82-88 set-up - not the 90-92 !)

Find a 82-88 camaro and pull this junction box from it. Cut the wires leading to the fusebox close to the fuse box. Then you will have the 2 plugs you need to swap on to the 89 harness. The 2 Orange wires to the "HOT" plug and the Pink wire leads to the "switched" plug.

I had to do this splicing "in reverse" when I insalled a 91 dash to a 86 Window harness. It's quick and easy once you get the plugs.

Re: junction box power window wiring Q's

thanks for the pic... yeah i thought the 89 harness was like the 82-88 but the car was made in 11/89 so its more similar to the 90 harness so what you're saying is cut the power connectors that connect to the junction box of an 82-88 and just splice the connectors onto the 89 harness?

im pretty sure thats what you mean but i want to be sure before i start cutting wires

Exactly. Just about every junkyard 82-88 ThirdGen will have this thing in it. By cutting the fuse box ends you should leave more than enough length of wire to splice into and reach the junction box.

Re: junction box power window wiring Q's

ok.. i went to the jy this morning and got the junction box connectors i needed...

i got 2 of the smaller connectors for the windows ?i think?, the 82-88 had 2 pink wire connectors 1with one wire and the other with 2

89 has one pink wire on the power options harness

do i splice the pink wire for the windows onto the small connector with the single wire?

and what about the power locks?

the first picture below is the connectors for the junction box i got from the junkyard

the second is the power option harness from the 89

Re: junction box power window wiring Q's

Take the Pink 2 wire plug and place it off to the side. You will not need it.

Splice the PINK one wire plug to the PINK wire on the 89 harness, Splice the 2 orange wire plug to the other 2 wires. ( Heavey gauge wire with Heavy guaage wire and small gauge with small gauge )

Once the plugs are spliced, plug them into the original junction box from the 86 Dash system. Check to be sure that you have silver "circuit breakers" in the fuse box then try the door locks. They should run from the orange HOT "at all times" wire. Then turn the ignition key and check the power windows.

Door locks can be tricky and you need to be sure the relay is mounted and has a good ground to the body for the system to work. The ground for the Power windows is inside the center console.Once theye plugs are spliced in and the circuit breakers are installed - you should have power options again!

Re: junction box power window wiring Q's

ok i got all that but the diagram on for the junction box shows that the power window side of the junction box gets power from a different connector....

something about power feed from IP harness... will the windows still work if this is not connected?..

the reason im asking instead of just trying is becaues the engine swap is not complete so the car has no power at the moment in just getting everything ready so i dont run into any problems once i get it running.

Re: junction box power window wiring Q's

iIn my picture posted on the 25h you can see the wires that run from your fusebox to the junction box. They can be plugged in at the top - the bottom - where ever. Once you splice the 2 plugs to the proper colored wires on the 89 window harness you simply plug them into the junction box. It's that simple.

The Orange wires from the fuse box provide constant power and the Pink one is switched power. The Orange is for the Door locks and the Pink is for the Power Windows.

Re: junction box power window wiring Q's

I am not a big fan of wiring power windows off of the pink side because it only gets power when the cars engine is on (unless there is something wrong with my car) and I find that pretty stupid.

Take a look at message #9 in this thread. The attachments are from the 82 Camaro Service Manual.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/elec...38#post3389254

The two orange wires, Circuit #60 (Defogger, Power Door Locks, Power Seats) and Circuit #40 Control power for door locks, etc. are the two circuits listed as coming from the I/P harness. That is just the way the wires are routed from the back of the fuse block to the junction block.

The pink wire is Circuit #76 for the power windows.

Re: junction box power window wiring Q's

Dear Members!
I looking to buy replacement aftermarket connectors for the junction box to add options, because here overseas i do not have junkyard as a source, so i try to find part numbers for this parts.

Many other GM also had these, so possibly someone making them. Dorman oer Standard.. etc.

I will wait for any reply.
