Dead ECM?
Dead ECM?
After doing the final welds for my RM Turbo project, my '88 5.7 won't start up. It's turning over but the fuel pump is not kicking on. I think it's the ECM because when I put the key in "run", the SES light never comes on. Is this indicative of a fried computer? All fuses look good.
Re: Dead ECM?
As I said the fuel pump isn't coming on in the initial turn of the key or while the engine is cranking. I won't be able to check the spark again until I get back into town on friday, so I want to narrow down possible causes while I'm gone. Isn't the SES light supposed to come on when the key is in run before you start cranking?
Re: Dead ECM?
I'll try that out after work today. Does anyone know which relay it is on an 88? I know it's one of the two on the driver's side of the firewall. Also does anyone know about the SES light? Is it supposed to come on? Thanks!

Re: Dead ECM?
Im having the same problem right now...
Check ECM/fuel pump under the hood, on the front-right side of the car...
Then try giving 12V to ALDL G connector, fuel pump should come on...
After my investigation I know that I have some short circuit/ gremlin that does not give power to ECM... I for example have not power at the fuse box, under ECM fuse... Didnt find where is it yet..

It turns out my charge pipe was grounding the O2 wire which was blowing out the fuse next to the battery. That was a pain in the A$$ to figure out! A little electric tape and a new fuse and it's good as new.

Wow, good for you!
I had a similar problem with my harness for my egr grounding out on the manifolds, causing my courtesy center fuse to blow (no interior light, blinkers)
Its a great thing to figure somehting like that out.
