Re: ignition swich??

It sounds like the fusible links by the starter might have fried, or the ignition switch.

Re: ignition swich??

I don't want to over-simplify your problem, but it sounds like the battery.

Have you checked it?

They are right at the starter on the 2 or3 wires coming off of the solenoid.

Re: ignition swich??

i dunno how it happened
It's kind of like the bumper stickers say... "**it happens"

Happens all the time. I think, based on analyzing what mine looked like when the **it happened to me right in the middle of a BUSY intersection as I shifted from 1st to 2nd taking off from the light while driving down the road in the pouring rain wearing a suit with my wife in the car, that the insulation on that fusible link (that's what it is....) either wore through from rubbing, or melted through; and when it touched the tube, it was all over.

Pretty much normal it seems.

Just fix it, and move on. Probably nothing else wrong, nothing else to get worked up about.

Sorry you didn't take that first advice about "fusible links"... would have saved you some trouble. You're not the first or the only one though: everybody seems to want to make that occurence harder than it really is.

Re: ignition swich??

thing is i did check them but didnt realize the wire got messed up "inside" the tube. i just looked saw it going in both ends and figured it was fine. but its all good i needed a new key and tumbler anyway so why not do it all at the same time?
