VSS Buffer ?

Does anyone know if the VSS Buffer is Still available for a 91 camaro? Is this a dealer item or can any parts store get it for me? If its not available has anyone had any luck bypassing this thing? I just got and installed a digital dash from nordskog due to my tach being wacky and everything works and now i figured its time to fix my speedo issue, ive already changed the vss and it still doesnt work. I read some other posts and looks like the vss buffer is the issue. i would like to fix this propperly if possible if not we can do some rewiring

Re: VSS Buffer ?

Possibly an opportunity for a Dakota digi box to solve?? I know for sure that almost 90% of our cars (1991's) parts are discontinued and NOS.

Re: VSS Buffer ?

The dakota box should be. Easiest thing to do is just call the tech support from both companies and tell them what you're planning / trying to do. TGO provides ALOT of answers all time but nothing beats starting off with calling the actual companies that mfg the product. I run a dakota box myself. I had to because my TKO600 tranny has a ford VSS sensor so I had to convert the pulse counts with the dakota box.

Re: VSS Buffer ?

well the nordskog dash has calibration built right into the speedo so i can use any sensor, it tells you to drive a calculated mile and it reads the pulse count, my problem is getting a pulse count to the dash. the digi box looks like it could work but i cant seem to find it on the website. Im wondering if i could go directly to the vss with the wire from the dash and just bypass the buffer all together

Re: VSS Buffer ?

actually after reading the digi box intructions it looks like it will work cause the nordskog dash default is 8000ppm so i can either calibrate the digi box to send 8000ppm or calibrate the dash to read the digi box default, this way it looks like the cruise and ecm will still get signals and i wont have check engine light. i will still have to do a tad more research but thanks for letting me in on the digi box!!!

Re: VSS Buffer ?

ok i have more clues to my problem after working on my car today, if i pull the VSS out and hook it up to a drill the speedo reads on the dash, if i put it in the car and drive i got nothing. now i remember a while back when i replaced the vss they said there were 2 Sensor options label D8G, D8M it almost seems like maybe i got the wrong one?? is there a difference between the length of the vss on the auto vs 5 speed? i checked the gear on the tail shaft itself and that did not appear to be loose. has anyone had this problem???

Re: VSS Buffer ?

im working on a RS and the buffer is not the issue because i ran the vss with a drill and i got 45mph on dash so the issue has to be the vss not mating propperly to the gear on the tail shaft

If the dash can be calibrated why bother using a third device that can do what the dash can to its self?
