start enable relay/ starter wiring
okay, i solved the problem i was having with the strange plus (Neutral Saftey Switch). now i still cant get my car to roll with the key. if i run 12v to the purple wire in the neutral safety switch connector with the key turned to "On" in the ignition it fire right up. but the tan wire that should be giving it its power doesnt have anything going through it "0 volts". I beleive its the start enable relay. but im not sure exactly where its at. i looked under the dash and to the right there is a fuse box with a BIG black box (i believe its the vats module, dont know) and 2 relays in it. one seems to control the horn (Found this out at 2 am LOL) the other is just one of those stupid two pronged silver round plugs. right off the steering column is a set of wires that seem to just connect and go on thier way. to the left side, which seems to have been broken off is what appears to be a connector with a relay that has nothing in it. it is located behind the actual fuse box. it has like a blue green and two other wires. i checked for juice and sure enough when connecting two of the wires (using multimeter) i found 12v. i tried jumping it, but still nothing. so i dont think this is it. any help locating the start enable relay would be big help, if pictures are needed for any of this, i will be glad to show u what i am stuck working with

Re: start enable relay/ starter wiring
Well it would really help if you told us what car you have. Year, make, model, engine. These things matter.
But if you want to try and just shoot in the dark, find the two thick wires on the starter enable relay. One is yellow (comes from the ignition switch and should have 12V on it with the key in the Start position), one is a different color (varies by years), possibly the tan you mentioned at your neutral safety switch. Those two wires jumped should give you starting capability again.
If you do NOT get 12V on the yellow wire on the relay connector when you turn the key forward to start, it might be your ignition switch.

Re: start enable relay/ starter wiring
oop, my bad 91 camaro rs v6 3.1 auto trans. I check and there is no voltage at all to the "thick" yellow wire. i check the two smaller yellow wires and didnt get a voltage period either. i check with no key, key in ignition, and key to on, then key to start. the relay is good by the way, tested it ealier. i did however run 12v to the tan wire (the one that runs from start enable to neutral safety switch) and it fire right up. so my problem lies in the two smaller wires are not getting power to "click" the relay and the yellow wire thats supposed to carry the charge never has power either.

Re: start enable relay/ starter wiring
The problem might be in the ignition switch then. It's not uncommon, they can burn out over time.
Drop the kick panel under the steering column. Locate the ignition switch (on top of the steering column, above the pedals). Check the big thick red wires coming into the switch. They should have power at all times. Then check the thick yellow coming out of the switch, measure the voltage while turning the key to start. That will tell you if your switch is faulty or the wiring.
Hope this helps.

P.S.: You can fill out your profile which will save you the need to specify your car info in the future in every post.

okay, checked the red wire, it has 12v constantly. the yellow never registered any type of power ever, key in, key start, key out, plugged in, unplugged, nothing. so it must be the ignition switch?

Re: start enable relay/ starter wiring
In that case, two possibilities:
#1 - bad ignition switch
#2 - misadjusted ignition switch
The switch is actuated with a rod from the ignition cylinder (when you turn the key). It might be just slightly misadjusted. I am NOT sure if the switch has any way to be moved fwd or back on the steering column (like the hi/lo beam switch). I'd guess it should. Take a look at it or do a search and hopefully you can adjust it to see if that's your problem.
If not, a new ignition switch would be in order.
Hope this helps.
